Hi!

Because of recent happenings in regards to mod misbehavior in a different exchange, it's come to light that there exists a discord group that is ostensibly for exchange mods to support each other, but in practice is used to mock exchange participants.

I would like to know:

- are any yuletide mods members of that server?

- what are the rules and standards for yuletide mods? Are there explicit rules against that sort of behavior?

- how are emails to the yuletide mods treated? Are there explicit rules about not discussing these with people who are not yuletide mods?

- are there explicit rules about not trash-talking participants, either in private or in semi-public discord servers?

Hello! While we won’t comment on our volunteers’ membership and activity in other servers, we’re happy to explain how we handle participant communication.

The Yuletide volunteer team does agree to a code of conduct that prohibits disclosing private information outside our working server. Only our main mods (currently Isis, Morbane, and pendrecarc) have direct access to the email. We don’t share participants’ personal information, such as details of unreviewed works or non-public correspondence, except with volunteers. We start those conversations with an assumption of good faith and, if a problem arises, aim to find solutions.

Only in extremely rare cases have we discussed individual participants in specific ways outside that server. Those are situations where we dealt with unusually disruptive rule-breaking that we felt other exchange moderators might need to be aware of.

We think it's reasonable for participants to know how we handle private communications, but this unofficial comm is probably not the best place to communicate it, so we plan to take some time to workshop a public statement of our expectations for the mod team and post it to the collection Rules and FAQ page.
