2023: The Swaps Eras Tour || SIGN-UPS ARE OPEN!
Hello! Another year, another assortment of life circumstances that prevent our being the ideal swaps mods. But here we are, starting early to accommodate October busyness, and I would like to publicly thank Livi for advising me to be lazy when I was like, "By strange coincidence we have a second TSwift-themed year! Should I keep or get rid of these '22' lyrics? Should I choose new ones?" She is wise.
ANY SUGGESTIONS FOR A 2024 THEME???? (A reference to the number "24," a phrase or idea playing on "swap," and/or something topical if you happen to be clairvoyant.) Our future selves would be very grateful!
YULESWAPS 2023 SCHEDULE:
+ Sign-up forms are open now and will close on Monday, October 16, 2023 at 7:00 PM PDT. Click here for a countdown. Tell your friends! Tell your enemies! Tell Siri to set a reminder!
+ Match-ups will go out between mid-October and early November over a period of 3-ish days (in order to accommodate mail merge sending limits). The order is usually candy, drinks, books.
You will then have at least 2 weeks to MAIL YOUR PACKAGE/S. Before signing up, please do a reality/early-November-calendar check to make sure you have the time, money, and bandwidth!
Multi-swap swappers: Please DO NOT WAIT to check in, and especially don't wait to contact your recipient/s! The clock starts separately for each swap when it hits your inbox. Your newbie single-swap recip WILL worry. They WILL email us, appropriately. We WILL email you, annoyed. ;3
+ This year's SENDING DEADLINE: Saturday, November 18, 2023 (close of business at your local post office/courier service, or midnight if you're ordering online!)
REMINDERS:
+ Swaps Central: Our all-in-one check-in form! Link to be provided constantly after match-ups. The most crucial check-ins are immediately after you receive your match-up email and immediately after you've SENT your package/s.
We know who checks in on time and who doesn't! (But we also send reminders, because you know. Life.)
+ Email: Please be prepared to contact your recipient within 48 hours of receiving your match-up email + respond to your sender ASAP when they email you (even if it's brief). We want to know by 3-4 days after match-ups that everyone has successfully received at least 1 email from their sender and at least 1 email from their recip, and make sure you're all set up to shop/order/mail gifts on time!
(If you're new, whitelist or email us at yuleswaps at gmail dot com! And/or closely watch this community in case your match-up email gets eaten by a spam filter.)
+ Defaulting/withdrawing: We want swaps to be fun, not stressful. So first, if you're stressed now just imagining "email back tomorrow" or "get to the post office by next weekend," please don't sign up. Maybe next year! But IF YOU DO sign up and then FOR ANY REASON realize you're no longer up to it -- just tell us! The sooner and more honestly you communicate with us, the easier it is for us to work out a solution that protects your sender and recip, frees you from anxiety, AND potentially allows you to participate in the future. <3
If you vanish without a trace, or default repeatedly, we will a) be worried!! and b) have to default and/or ban you for the sake of others' sanity.
+ DW/LJ: We always update on DW as soon as match-ups go out, in case any emails have gone astray. Please see the FAQ for instructions on how to track the various yuleswaps tags!
+ Signing up: Google Forms should send a copy of your sign-up responses. You can edit them (via the link provided in that email) until sign-ups close! Please read instructions carefully.

Bonus points for anyone who can remember/figure out what years these Yuleswaps "eras" were originally without checking the tag or their email! I think I'd get 2 out of 3 if I didn't know, but only because 1 of them is fairly recent.
(Hint: they are chronological!)

First, I think you're apologizing for doing swaps without having signed up for Yuletide this year? Don't worry about that! While we do sometimes check if you're a current or past YT participant, have an active AO3, etc. we a) can't do it as easily when we open/close sign-ups before Yuletide proper, and b) are not here to aggressively gatekeep YT community members, especially longtime swappers who are taking time away from writing fic or, like you, missed Yuletide sign-ups.
(And tbh, even if we wanted to kick you out, it would be pretty annoying now that all the matches are done! Haha.)
But I'm so sorry to hear you meant to sign up for Yuletide and missed it! That's such a bummer. You should join the pinch-hit list if you haven't already, and you can always treat! The deadline really crept up on us this year too.
