What is TransTide?
Since trans headcanons and the portrayal of trans characters can be personal for many people, writers might be nervous to write trans headcanons without invitation. This mini challenge is for people to signal that they would love to receive trans headcanons, as well as to showcase their requested fandoms with canon trans characters.
Note that this exchange is open to nonbinary characters as well.

Likes: characters making jokes about their gender, neopronouns, nonbinary characters, characters who still like their bodies/parts of their bodies (E.g. trans men being okay with having a vagina). (Note that characters experiencing dysphoria is also more than okay.)
DNWs: my trans-specific DNW is awkward/negative coming out scenes, long explaining being trans, etc. A casual "I am trans" or a one-sentence explanation is fine of course, but please don't turn it into a Trans 101 for cis people. (Exception: scenes where one character explaining what being trans means to them makes the other character realize that they're trans as well. Basically, keep it positive and without the horror/anxiety of coming out please.)

Till We Meet Again is a photo series about two immortal (?) characters through different time periods, so it's a good opportunity if you like to write historical trans characters.

General Likes:
I like characters being casually trans without the story being About Their Transness. (If it's "okay let's talk about how to have good sex and your transness impacts that", or similar things, that's fine, the point is the sex in that case.) I'm not particularly interested in dysphoria being central to a trans character's experience, but I'm fine with it existing so long as your work doesn't linger in it.
On that note: Include as much/little medical transition as you're interested in! (I'm especially here for seeing bottom surgery of any sort! or only one of hormones/surgery.) Use the words for body features (inc. genitalia) that make sense to you for the character(s) you're writing; preference for the words to be gender-affirming or clinically descriptive. When writing nsfw, I am fine with penetrative sex (and want to see it for post-surgery trans characters!), and also all my general nsfw likes apply.
Pronoun-wise, I'm fine with neopronouns in contexts where they make sense (preferences: ey/em/eir, ve/ver, xie/xir and variations). I really love seeing characters use multiple names and pronoun sets, especially when they use different names/pronouns in different contexts/with different people! (I also do not require trans characters to have deadnames. tbh I like it when they don't?)

For anyone who watches Bob's Burgers, I requested trans Gene Belcher as one of my prompts. You can find my full prompt in the link above, but here's the relevant parts:
Gene as trans: I headcanon Gene as trans, and would love an exploration of her social transition as a young adult! I'm not interested in an issues-fic, dysphoria, or anything that delves too deeply into her medical transition (although you're certainly welcome to include details of that in your fic). I'm more interested the social dynamics around Gene's transition, and how Gene's interactions with other characters might change as Gene transitions. I'd love to see Gene's exploration of her femininity as a source of joy, abundance, and expansion in her life, rather than anything sad or depressing. Extra points for Gene processing her gender with her sisters, and extra bonus points if you include Marshmallow!
DNW: I read fics to further immerse myself in the world that canon presents, so my DNWs are anything that significantly deviates from the tone/topics presented in the original work. If you write the trans Gene prompt, I'd like to avoid this turning into an issues-fic, so no trans 101-type explanation, or soapboxing of trans issues/trans politics. The Bob's Burgers universe is depicted as very accepting of LGBTQ+ people and alternative lifestyles, so no overt transphobia or violence. No neopronouns, please! No public health concerns (eg, STDs), character deaths, or sad endings, please. Not interested in receiving smut for this prompt.

A Lady for a Duke is a historical romance between a trans woman and a cis man. When Viola Carroll was presumed dead at the battle of Waterloo, she took the opportunity to start living openly as a woman. This meant leaving her closest friend, the Duke of Gracewood, behind. When they come back into each other's lives, they fall in love, but their past association, and Gracewood's ignorance of it, come between them.
There are a couple of Viola backstory fics I would love to see: either her being cared for by the Barniers, realizing that Monsieur Barnier is trans, and that living openly as a woman is an option for her, or after that, her arriving at Louise and Badger's and revealing herself.
Arden St. Ives - Alexis Hall is a BDSM billionaire romance trilogy (cis male-cis male) with two wonderful trans side characters. Poppy Carrie is a gorgeous, glamourous, talented model/actress (and Arden's best friend's sister). George Chase is a famous photographer: celebrity, fashion, and fine art portraits. She's older than most of the characters in the book by a generation or so, elegant, and self-identified rake who says, "I have two talents, sex and art."
I'd love to see any fic about either of them separately or both together. (But please no Poppy Carrie/George, as Poppy Carrie is happily married and I headcanon the relationship as monogamous). Since George is a photographer and Poppy Carrie is a model, a photo shoot would be an obvious context, either the one for Arden's profile of her or on another occasion. A different setting would be fine two. I'd be very interested in what the two women think of each other. Does Poppy Carrie look to George as a role model? Is she intimidated by her? Does George think of Poppy Carrie as a sweet young thing? DOes she have thoughts about the differences and similarites between the worlds (the millenia!) into which each of them came out?
For Real - Alexis Hall is a cis male-cis male BDSM romance between a young, novice dom and a jaded, older sub. I'd love to read a transmasc headcanon of Toby, the dom. The way that he's small and young but fierce and frustrated by the way he's not taken seriously as a dom because of those things seems like a natural fit for it.
Rosaline Palmer Takes the Cake - Alexis Hall is a cis female-cis male romcom set on a baking reality TV show. I'd love to read a post-canon fic where the title character considers her gender identity and/or comes out as transmasc or enby. This would naturally include R's daughter Amelie and boyfriend Harry (and possibly ex-girlfriend Lauren), all of whom I think would be cool about it (but R might certainly worry about the possibility that they wouldn't be). R's parents would almost certainly be AWFUL about it, and there's no need to write R coming out to them unless you want to.

Fandom 2: Cyclone Series - Courtney Milan: Jay na Thalang, Maria Lopez
Any specific fandom details, preferences, comments, etc:
Prompt: Maria takes Jay to meet her grandma for the 1st time. Despite warnings, he somehow was expecting to be fed a lot, not cross-examined.
Whether you're inspired by the prompt or not, would love a story about Maria & Jay in the future of their relationship, possibly interacting with some family or friends. Maria is canonically trans and I love how she's portrayed, would love more of it.

DNWs: I'm happy for trans headcanons, but I don't like genderswap. So for example, if a Marvel character is trans in your headcanon, they should not be genderswapped at the same time. Trans masc/trans male Clint, for example, would not be a genderswap.
Also DNW transphobia or transphobic characters in the fic. I don't want the narrative to serve the cis person having an aha moment that trans people are real and valid.
I'll be honest, trans masc and nonbinary headcanons would likely be best for me to avoid dysphoria.

I am open to receiving trans headcanons for any of my fandoms (The Alienist, No Escape Room, Quantum Leap (2022)), but please see my comment on Queering the Tide for some serious caveats and considerations when it comes to The Alienist.
For this challenge though, I'd like to showcase my request for stories about Ian Wright, a non-binary character played by a non-binary actor in the Quantum Leap reboot.
Ian is the only character I've requested in QL, though I'm happy for others to be included, I just would like to see them as the focus of literally anything. They're smart, they're moral, they're a massive nerd who's ridiculously into their work, what's not to love? Backstory fic would be fun, or canon-divergence in which it's Ian who is the leaper or the hologram, instead of Addison or Ben, perhaps.

General DNWs: incest, A/B/O, Mpreg, teacher/student (of any age or level of education), explicit sex with any character under 18, significant age gaps, noncon or dubcon, dark versions of any character, graphic portrayals of self harm (references and discussions are fine), suicide, cheating, domestic abuse, kinky sex, violent sex, violent bigotry of any kind (I.e., someone is denied a job for being trans is fine, someone being assaulted for being trans is not)
I'll add some specific prompts to my letter for each fandom if you want more details, but here are some general thoughts.
Fandom 1: The Princess Diaries
Characters: Clarisse Renaldi, Joseph, Mia Thermopolis, Nicholas Devereaux
Any specific fandom details, preferences, comments, etc: Specific DNWs: non-canon ships, high school AU (dealing with a part of the canon timeline where the characters are in high school is fine!)
This is maybe not the fandom I would most expect trans headcanons, but I fully welcome them! In this case, I prefer the characters to be trans [the gender they present as in canon] (so Mia as a trans woman, Nicholas as a trans man, etc.) or nonbinary/genderfluid, etc. Clarisse is the one character I think might be difficult to trans headcanon here, but if you want to do it, go for it! Basically I'd love to see these characters as living their best lives while being trans. In whatever level of canon divergence or compliance or AU you'd like!
Fandom 2: Billy Eliot: The Musical - Elton John/Hall
Characters: Billy Elliot, Debbie Wilkinson, Michael Caffrey, Mrs Wilkinson
Any specific fandom details, preferences, comments, etc:
Specific DNWs: adult/child relationships, endgame Billy/Debbie
Trans femme Michael!!!! Michael's very obviously queer and is dressed really femme at the end of the movie (which is the only part of the movie I've seen!). I'd also love to see Billy and/or Debbie exploring gender, though I'm not super comfortable with either of them as binary trans. Maybe genderfluid Billy and butch enby Debbie? I don't especially see Mrs. Wilkinson as trans, but again, have fun with that if it interests you!
Fandom 3: Legally Blonde - Hach/O'Keefe/Benjamin
Characters: Elle Woods, Emmett Forrest, Paulette Bonafonté , Vivian Kensington

The Legally Blonde fandom watched the song "Take It Like a Man" and went "Emmett's a trans guy," and they were RIGHT! I'd also love trans woman Elle and/or Paulette. Elle doing some sort of nonbinary femme thing would also be delightful. And honestly, Vivian is ready for a gender journey, and I'd love to see where it goes.
Fandom 4: The Will Darling Adventures - K. J. Charles
Characters: Kim Secretan, Will Darling, Maisie Jones, Phoebe Stephens-Prince

Specific DNWs: non-canon ships, high school AU, unhappy ending, for this fandom canon-typical references to self-harm are okay
This is the other fandom where I have less specific gender ideas. But I would love to see more conversations about gender in the historical context of the 1920s. Gender and sexuality were so connected, that it gets really interesting. In this case, I prefer the characters to be trans [the gender they present as in canon] (so Phoebe as a trans woman, Kim as a trans man, etc.) or nonbinary/genderfluid, etc. For this fandom in particular, I really just want to see everybody happy, so whatever level of canon divergence or AU you go for, I want there to be queer joy.
Fandom 5: Mansfield Park
Characters: Fanny Price, Mary Crawford
Any specific fandom details, preferences, comments, etc:
Specific DNWs: Fanny/Henry, a focus on Fanny/Edmund, for this fandom canon-typical incest (i.e., first cousins) is okay
First of all, I do ship them. But beyond that, I'm really open to anything here. There is so much potential for playing with gender in a society with very strict gender expectations. And they deal with those expectations in such different ways in canon. There's so much trans potential here.
Fandom 6:
Characters: Eurydice, Hades, Hermes, Orpheus, Persephone
Any specific fandom details, preferences, comments, etc:
Specific DNWs: non-canon ships, Hades/Eurydice, high school AU
T4T Orpheus/Eurydice?? I really want a modern AU of these two, and I would love for this to be a part of it. Also, what even is gender to the gods? Or maybe there's some gender world building you want to do about... wherever and whenever this musical is set. In this case, I prefer the characters to be trans [the gender they present as in canon] (so Persephone as a trans woman, Hades as a trans man, etc.) or nonbinary/genderfluid, etc. But since Hermes has been played by both men and women, I think you can just go for whatever you want there.

Fandom 1: 琅琊榜 | Nirvana in Fire (TV)
Any specific fandom details, preferences, comments, etc: I am very, very down for wuxia crossdressing tropes! In my letter, i talk in detail about crossdressing so if you are also down with wuxia crossdressing tropes, i have some more ideas there.
Fandom 2: 伪装者 | The Disguiser (TV)
Any specific fandom details, preferences, comments, etc: As in general, here applies, too: if you write about Yu Manli (and trans experience relating to this character), please, give them a happy ending. A thing i especially enjoy is when secret agents find gender euphoria in the genderless military designations or code names.
Fandom 3: Hu Ge & Colleagues RPF
Any specific fandom details, preferences, comments, etc: There exist a video where the cast of Nirvana in fire is asked about who is the female lead in the drama and Hu Ge answers that he is the female lead because of course, he does. (If i find the interview again, i will link it.) So there is the idea for Hu Ge discovering genderqueerness, maybe even through the character of Mei Changsu.
Fandom 4: 물들여 | Tinted With You (TV)
Any specific fandom details, preferences, comments, etc: What if. Crossing time also brings transgressing genders for someone? Maybe someone who was comfortable with their gender in their own era, discovers that they start to feel discomfort living in the society of another era? (I reckon Eun Ho would need to live in the past longer and in a less isolated way and there is another prompt.) Or you meet the reincarnation of your boyfriend and turns out they don’t want to be a boyfriend anymore.
Fandom 5: 仙道第一小白脸 - 一十四洲 | The #1 Pretty Boy of the Immortal Path - Yī Shí Sì Zhōu
Any specific fandom details, preferences, comments, etc: Look, we know that everyone and their mother (especially their mother) has a relationship with crossdressing in this novel. It’s oh so messy and i would prefer if it stayed messy if that makes sense? Also, i would like to call attention to Xie Zishe in a male official’s garb. What’s up with that, we never learn about their time in the imperial city in more detail. That would be fun to discover.
As a general note, i would enjoy if the story was about gender related stuff but also, if it’s an aspect of the story (Xie Zishe’s time at court, Eun Ho stuck in the Joseon era, Hu Ge relating to Mei Changsu including their genderqueerness, Yu Manli is happy in general and is enjoying the genderless codename etc.). So if you want to write another story but you were wondering whether making a character genderqueer in some way would be an aspect you wanted to add, yes, please.
