Celebrate Trans Characters: Transtide 2022

What is TransTide?

Since trans headcanons and the portrayal of trans characters can be personal for many people, writers might be nervous to write trans headcanons without invitation. This mini challenge is for people to signal that they would love to receive trans headcanons, as well as to showcase their requested fandoms with canon trans characters.

Note that this exchange is open to nonbinary characters as well.

How do I participate?
  • Leave a comment on this post linking your letter and/or listing your requested fandoms and characters if you 1) requested canonical trans characters, 2) are happy to receive a gift where your writer headcanons one or several of the characters as trans.
  • Feel free to add any likes and DNWs.
  • Make sure to include your ao3 name!
  • If you post a fic for Yuletide with one or more trans characters, tag it with TransTide so people can find it easily.

Letter Link!

Requests:
The Radiant Emperor Series - Shelley Parker-Chan (Wang Baoxiang and/or General Ouyang)
- Ouyang has canonical Gender Stuff going on (as he's a eunuch), and taking that in a trans direction would be neat!
- Baoxiang, on the other hand, is simply GNC in his society and that could be interesting to push farther.

时光代理人 | Link Click (Cartoon) (Any/None: Worldbuilding, Cheng Xiaoshi, Lu Guang, Qiao Ling)
- I have some trans-specific requests for Cheng Xiaoshi, centered around his ability to briefly possess other people
- This is one where I'm just happy to see any trans headcanons you have!

Sha Hai | Tomb of the Sea (Su Nan and/or Li Cu)
- Nothing specific, just a general openness to trans interpretations!

Broken Sky Series - Chris Wooding (Aurin | Li'ain and/or Whist)
- Nothing specific, just a general openness to trans interpretations!

I'm also requesting 绅探 | Detective L (TV) (Huo Wensi) and 叛逆者 | The Rebel (TV 2021) (Any/None: Meng Annan | Kuang Huidong, Chen Moqun, Lin Nansheng, Lan Xinjie), but they're canons where I'm a little less certain what trans interpretations would look like. If you think you can write to my requests and include transness, go ahead! But Republican-era China doesn't feel like a great time for trans folk. ^^;

General Likes:
I like characters being casually trans without the story being About Their Transness. (If it's "okay let's talk about how to have good sex and your transness impacts that", or similar things, that's fine, the point is the sex in that case.) I'm not particularly interested in dysphoria being central to a trans character's experience, but I'm fine with it existing so long as your work doesn't linger in it.

On that note: Include as much/little medical transition as you're interested in! (I'm especially here for seeing bottom surgery of any sort! or only one of hormones/surgery.) Use the words for body features (inc. genitalia) that make sense to you for the character(s) you're writing; preference for the words to be gender-affirming or clinically descriptive. When writing nsfw, I am fine with penetrative sex (and want to see it for post-surgery trans characters!), and also all my general nsfw likes apply.

Pronoun-wise, I'm fine with neopronouns in contexts where they make sense (preferences: ey/em/eir, ve/ver, xie/xir and variations). I really love seeing characters use multiple names and pronoun sets, especially when they use different names/pronouns in different contexts/with different people! (I also do not require trans characters to have deadnames. tbh I like it when they don't?)
