We're in ur yuletide, queering ur canons.

There are many ways of queering texts and characters. This challenge is for any and all of them! The widest possible definition of queering is used here. If you think your prompt counts, then do so we. Check the first comment for an example of queering a text; everyone is welcome to add on more examples there, too.

Note: in fics that overlap with TransTide, both

Any specific fandom details, preferences, comments, etc: give Koo a female partner? She's got a lot of queer energy in more than one sense of the word, so (considering her dead husband) I headcanon her as bi and want her to be happy.

Any specific fandom details, preferences, comments, etc: Ouyang is a eunuch with incredibly complicated feelings about that fact (and about the people he serves). Baoxiang feels very GNC compared to his culture, which leads to easy queer readings. Something playing with those would be cool!

Fandom 1: Billy Elliot

I love future fic, gay or bi Billy, gay or trans femme Michael, gay or bi Debbie, and hell, what did Mrs. Wilkinson get up to when she was studying ballet?! (This is the second fandom on my letter)

Fandom 2: Mansfield Park
Any specific fandom details, preferences, comments, etc: The ending of this novel is depressing as hell. (Spoilers?) Fanny winds up with her cousin, the only man who was ever even slightly nice to her. That seems like the kind of thing a sad and confused lesbian would do to me. I ship Fanny and Mary Crawford, since Mary is the only one who seems to pay any attention to Fanny for half the novel. Also, she's a mean girl, and there's a lot of room for reformation there. I'm also open to one or both of them being trans. I love an AU or canon divergence for this fandom. (This is the fifth fandom on my letter)

You are welcome to queer my other four fandoms: Princess Diaries (Movies), Legally Blonde (Musical), Will Darling Adventures, and Hadestown. I do ship m/f couples in Princess Diaries, Legally Blonde, and Hadestown, but feel free to make people trans or bi or play with minor characters. The Will Darling Adventures is pretty gay already, so you might just enjoy that, even if you're not going to need to DIY the queerness.

potential prompt: John Wyndham being bailed out of Haas-level trouble by his husband, Gabriel Lawson, with all the fuss possible.
Most of all I want John Wyndham/Gabriel Lawson and some story mostly about the two of them with some amount of sweet/amusing interaction.
Whatever interesting thing you write about Lawson & Wyndham, please have a happy ending (the regular kind).
John Wyndham is canonically trans and I'd enjoy more time with him.

Fandom 2: Cyclone Series - Courtney Milan: Jay na Thalang, Maria Lopez
Prompt: Maria takes Jay to meet her grandma for the 1st time. Despite warnings, he somehow was expecting to be fed a lot, not cross-examined.
Whether you're inspired by the prompt or not, would love a story about Maria & Jay in the future of their relationship, possibly interacting with some family or friends. Maria is canonically trans and I love how she's portrayed, would love more of it.

I can see from the other lists I probably went too overboard on this, but:

potential prompt: El's times with Orion have led to her being pregnant. (He is tied to the school and completely unavailable.) Liesel, who was already letting go of her revenge plan, decides to leave London to start a Golden Enclave with El and raise the kid with her.

potential prompt: Liesel visits El during her travels maw-mouth hunting, to comfort El. (Can be as fade to black on actual sex as you like: please have snuggling and feeling better though.) Any worldbuilding included much appreciated.

I especially want to read about El at some point in her future and see what she's up to now and how she's doing (lover, friends, family, and mals optional). I'd like there to be some amount of happiness in her life.

Hawkeye - Matt Fraction:
I requested Clint and Kate. I ship Clint with men. There is a joke in the comic about Kate asking him if he wants to get down with Spider-Man so it's not even subtext. Canonically his relationships with women often end with them hitting him (yes really) and I DNW any on-screen domestic violence, but if anyone wants to do more implying that men would be better for him that'd be great.

If you're looking here, please please check carefully content warnings unless you're already familiar with the canon, as this is a gruesome crime investigation series set in 1890s NYC, and displays in story homophobia, transphobia, anti-Semitism, sexual assault, and sexual exploitation of minors, particularly in its first season, which is about solving the murders of child sex workers. Though the main characters explicitly display more progressive attitudes and work against the bigotry, the series' handling of trans identities and characters is clumsy at best. As a queer nonbinary person, I can see the intention towards understanding and sensitivity, but appreciate that others have different opinions, hence this small wall of text. IMO, there's tremendous scope here to queer this text and do what the series did not itself manage to do.

Fandom 2: Quantum Leap (2022)

Since Quantum Leap is a show about someone "leaping" into the bodies and lives of others, regardless of age, gender or race, throughout time, there's potentially a lot of interesting fun to be had here around identity and queerness. Especially since the 2022 reboot seems to be eschewing the "within the leaper's own lifetime" time restriction on who they might leap into.
Also, my requested character Ian Wright, is non-binary and I'm looking for anything with a focus on them, including potential canon-divergence AUs in which they are the leaper/hologram instead of Ben/Addison.

Fandom 2: Sisterhood of The Traveling Pants (Tibby Rollins, Carmen Lowell, Lena Kaligaris, Bridget Vreeland)
-I've heard people say that one in four people are gay. But what if all four were? (any non-straight headcanon, prefer Tibby/Carmen but any could work.)

Fandom 3: Wonder (Olivia "Via" Pullman, Miranda Navas)
-In the movie, Miranda did not look straight. In the book, she even says she'd date Via if she was a guy. (bisexual headcanon for Via, lesbian & nonbinary headcanon for Miranda)

Fandom 1:Hitherby Dragons: The canon of Hitherby has always been sympathetic to outsiders, strangers, and people who see the world differently and have suffered for it. It rarely delves into romance (though Sid and Max are either a couple or something beyond that), but emotional connection of any sort is critical. I'd love to see Ink Catherly confronting her own gender or her own romantic leanings during her journey, even if I suspect she'd shy away from making romantic connections because they'd pull her away from her journey to find Hell/kill whoever's on the throne of the world.

Fandom 2:Undead Unluck: Canonically, sex and gender are a rule added to the world at a certain point -- and we've seen the androgynous people who came before. Juiz is a character who's been female in all her present-day appearances, but we've seen her pre-gender flashback form. And she's one of the few people who'd be aware of the change and remember it -- not only that, but have to do it over and over again as she loops. How has that affected her gender identity and presentation? Does she embrace her gender-neutral form, or is her female gender always inside and itching to get out? Is the addition of the UMA that gives people gender a frustration or a relief each time? A lot of potential analogies to trans situations there, in either direction.

Fandom 3: Wayfarers Series - Becky Chambers: The setting is quite accepting of LGBTQ+ people, in general. But there are cultures and species that have their own issues, sometimes similar to human ones, sometimes analogous, sometimes completely different. And that makes for fascinating exploration. Speaker interacted with people of several different species on a personal level at the Five-Hop, and regularly interacts with more as part of her job. Has seeing Tupo's uncertainty about what gender xyr is going to choose, or Pei struggling with her lack of desire to reproduce, gotten her more interested in that? Do Akarak have gay or transgender people, and how much does it mean in a society where there's no strong gender-based roles, recreational sex isn't a biological thing for them, there's no romantic bonds, and everyone on a ship is equally family? How does queerness look to someone like Speaker, who's basically on the outside of it all in so many ways?

Fandom 4: Unpacking: Obviously the protagonist and her girlfriend/wife are queer, and we see the development of her identity over the course of the game. But there's a lot more to explore there. Is the protagonist bi, or did her bad relationship with the boyfriend make her realize she was lesbian? Is she still in the process of understanding herself? How did meeting her partner and falling in love affect her journey of discovery? Did she start to suspect in college, or already know, or was she in denial but made some slips in the RPGs she played with her roommates? There's a lot of potential given the ways in which we do and don't know her.
