Season's Treatings mini-challenge

Do you love receiving or writing end of year holiday stories? Are you prompting a snowed in Hanukkah celebration or an Australian New Year's beach party? Season's Treatings may be for you!

This mini-challenge is all about November, December and January holidays, traditions, and cultural celebrations big and small and all over the globe--and perhaps some fantasy worlds, who knows. If you want to prompt it, someone may want to write it.

When you comment, please include:

Holiday(s) Requested: By fandom, see below; New Year's Eve; New Year's Day
Fandom and character(s): Tsukihime (Arcueid, Hisui, Arihiko, Kohaku, Akiha, Shiki, Satsuki); Eisenhorn series (Gideon Ravenor, Patience Kys, Wystan Frauka, Eleena Koi)
Prompts:
Tsukihime
  • Christmas in Japan is a couple's holiday primarily, celebrated mostly on Christmas Eve. I'd love to see a dinner date or romantic walk to see the lights and decoration displays, or a trip to a theme park.
  • Arcueid Brunestud has decided her birthday is December 25th! It's probably the first and only time she's celebrated it, or even been awake to do so.
  • New Year's Day is important to families and spiritually. I wouldn't mind a shippy take or characters going as friends, though. They can wear traditional dress and make wishes for themselves and one another's success in the year to come, or watch the first sunrise of the year together.
  • For a more general wintery vibe (snowball fights, ice skating, etc), Shiki and Akiha, along with the twins, planned a winter vacation trip. Nagano, their destination, would have hosted the winter Olympics the year before, so there's lots of winter weather, snowy sports, and opportunities for cozy chalet vibes.

Eisenhorn Series
  • The midwinter holiday in 40k is Sanguinalia, according to one of the RPG sourcebooks. Abnett himself makes a reference to Candlemas being around the same time, but details on either are thin on the ground. I wrote up a bit of fanon long ago to marry the two together, leaning on Saturnalia traditions and Roman Catholic ones, which maybe you'll find helpful. Or maybe you won't, in which case, feel free to disregard it! We know very little about the observation of these holidays, and local customs will always differ.
  • Patience in particular is a glamourous woman I would love to see at a fancy New Year's Eve party--ideally with Gideon. We never get to see them happy and relaxed. Then again, maybe they are working ...
  • Wystan and Eleena are, by their nature, outsiders--they're called Pariahs for a reason. It would be sweet to see the rest of the team including them in festivities, or, contrarily, them making their own traditions.

Fandom and character(s): Bullet Train (Tangerine, Ladybug, Lemon, Carter) Kraven the Hunter (Sergei, Dmitri, Nikolai); House of Guinness (Arthur Guinness, Sean Rafferty); Nosferatu (Friedrich Harding); The Fall Guy (Tom Ryder)

Holiday(s): any
Fandom: Interstellar (2014)
Details: alongside traditional holidays, if set on edmund's planet, it would so interesting to see a story explore non-traditional/personal seasonal celebrations, the creation of new celebrations (or even holidays!) influenced by environmental/meteorological conditions

Fandom: The Nice Guys (2016)
Details: i love jewish headcanon for holland and holly, so seeing hanukkah celebrations would be lovely!

Fandom: Teen Beach Movie (Movies)
Details: teen beach is such a quintessentially summery series, so how would lela/tanner react to things like snow, or other wintry conditions?

Holiday(s) Requested: Bonfire Night, Diwali, Christmas Eve/Day
Fandom and character(s): 28 Years Later (worldbuilding), Rise of the Planet of the Apes (Caesar, Maurice, Nova)
Prompts:
For 28YL:
- Do people still celebrate Bonfire Night? Have they found a way to set off fireworks and light bonfires without attracting infected?

For RotPOTA:
- Did Caesar grow up celebrating Christmas? What about Diwali*? Might he have kept and passed on some of those traditions to his clan?
Maurice and Nova also grew up as/alongside humans so would probably be familiar with human holiday traditions.
I've generally requested post-canon for this fandom, but for this prompt mid-canon is all good!

*Based on her surname it seems like Caroline Aranha is most likely of Goan descent. The population of Goa is predominantly Hindu but there are also a lot of Catholics because of Portuguese colonisation (and Aranha is originally a Portuguese name). So I'm not sure what religion she would have, if any, but she could be Hindu!

Holiday(s) Requested: New Year for the Cdramas, Feast of the Moon or Midwinter for Baldur's Gate
Fandom and character(s): 长歌行 | The Long Ballad (TV): Ashile Sun, Li Changge. 星汉灿烂 | Love Like the Galaxy (TV): Cheng Shaoshang, Ling Buyi. Baldur's Gate I and II (Video Games): Anomen, Charname, Mazzy
Prompts: Wintery setting. Celebrating midwinter festivities as appropriate for each canon, or enjoying a quiet midwinter night or snowy day once things have settled down. I'd like something warm and affectionate; it could be cheery or funny, it could be reminiscence and feels, it could be good-natured shenanigans - maybe a friendly snowball fight? Warm drinks on a cold day are also always good.

Fandom and character(s): American Girl Kit, BabySitters Club, Betsy-Tacy, Oregon Trail II, Remember WENN
Prompts: I have a whole slew of winter and Christmas prompts in my letter! Going out caroling (this is my dream, ha), mistletoe, parties, cookie baking, conversations while bathed in the glow of Christmas lights/fires/candles, etc. Riff off traditional holiday plots or songs as the basis of your fic, if you like. Is someone curmudgeonly? Win them over! Want to bring in ghosts? That’s traditional, and I love it.

Fandom and character(s): The Echo Archives - Melissa Caruso (Rika Nonesuch and Kembral Thorne). No Body No Crime - Tess Sharpe (Chloe Harper [any of the characters in the tagset welcome!!). Bury Our Bones in the Midnight Soil - V.E. Schwab (Alice Moore). The Historian - Elizabeth Kostova (Helen Rossi and The Narrator).
Prompts: for Echo Archives, i'd love to see their version of a winter holiday with Kembral and Rika both being equally terrible and also perfect about getting each other gifts, and adorable shenanagins with Emmi. for No Body No Crime, i'd love to see Chloe's first Christmas back from being on the run for all those years. how does she integrate with Mel and the twins? is it weird? lovely? both? for Bury Our Bones, i'd either love to see Alice's loneliness of being outside of her family now that she's a vampire and will outgrow them all, or something more wholesome tacked on, maybe an au where Sabine and Charlotte don't die? or one of them don't? or a flashback to a Christmas before Catty died when they're little? for The Historian, i would looooove to see how Helen and her daughter try to navigate their first Christmas together in years. i'd love to see them out and about trying to bond over christmas actvities.

Fandom and character(s): Call Me By Your Name (2017), Elio/Oliver

Holiday(s) Requested: Christmas
Fandom and character(s): Midnight Burger, anyone in the diner
Prompts: Very specifically prompting for them putting on A Christmas Story, which Gloria and Caspar reference wanting to do in an episode (noted in my letter)

Holiday(s) Requested: Christmas, Hanukkah, New Years
Fandom and character(s): Frasier, Freddy & David
Prompts: I'd love a lil Christmas or Hannukah (Freddy is Jewish but celebrates both canonically) family affair. I loooove the Frasier holiday episodes so that would be so fun for me. My prompts + likes are a good place for inspo here because most of them can slot into a holiday fic!

Holiday(s) Requested: Christmas
Fandom and character(s): Pentecost & Parker (murder mystery series set in the 1940s New York, great disability + queer rep, both leads are women)
Prompts: Would love exploration of what a holiday season would look like for them. They both come from very complicated backgrounds (not the least of which that Lillian's father is a minister, right?), and I have to imagine there's a mix of emotions around the holidays (or none at all!). Would be cool if they opened the house to a lot of the women that Will has been training/that they help on weekends, or if it's just the three of them (them + their housekeeper whose name eludes me). Or 1940s Christmas traditions? Open to all kinds of interpretations here, including multi-faith ones

Holiday(s) Requested: Christmas
Fandom and character(s): Ludwig
Prompts: She always invites him round for Christmas! It sounds like it's been years since he's come! Tell me about a time that he does, or show me a Christmas they celebrate while James is missing

Holiday(s) Requested: Ramadan, New Years
Fandom and character(s): We Are Lady Parts, Aisha & Ahsan
Prompts: I'm cheating because Ramadan starts in February next year but I would be very happy to receive a fic set around Ramadan. Also would be fun/cute to see some New Years content with the siblings. Again, I think my prompts are good here, but also open to whatever inspires you.

Holiday(s) Requested: Christmas, New Years
Fandom and character(s): Shakespeare & Hathaway, Frank, Lu & Sebastian
Prompts: I mean if this show isn't rife for a quaint holiday-themed English detective story, nothing is. Would love to see any of my prompts/likes with the holiday(s) incorporated!

Holiday(s) Requested: Christmas, New Years
Fandom and character(s): How to Die Alone
Prompts: Come on, a fandom made for holiday-themed content. I'd love any holiday story here!

Holidays Requested: Christmas, New Year's, generally wintery vibes
Fandom and characters: Alexa & Katie (Alexa, Katie), Blossom (Blossom, Six), Degrassi: the Next Generation (Ellie, Paige, Anya, Holly J.), Degrassi: Next Class (Maya, Grace, Zoe, Lola), Divergent Series - Veronica Roth (Tris, Christina, Tobias, Worldbuilding), Only Murders in the Building (Mabel, Oliver, Charles, Winnie), Red Band Society (Emma, Kara), Roseanne (Darlene)
Prompts:
-considering Degrassi characters have gone to Las Vegas on spring break, what's stopping them from going to Australia for winter break?
-Darlene's forced to spend Christmas Eve in her dorm room when a blizzard makes it impossible to drive home.
-Emma and Kara spend Christmas in the hospital.
-how do holidays work in the world of Divergent?
-Blossom and Six spend winter break in Paris with Blossom's mom.
-Katie tries to wake Alexa up to watch the first sunrise of the year.
-Christmas in Oliver's apartment from Winnie's (his dog's) perspective.

Holiday(s) Requested: Hanukkah specifically, but I'm down for any holidays that aren't Christian (per my DNW)! Introduce me to your holiday or one you enjoy too :)
Fandom and character(s): Very down for this for any of my fandoms! Fandoms I requested with canonical Jewish characters: the Forbidden Book and The Angel of the Crows, and arguably Wind Will Rove (Rosie's wife is named Liat and they have a grandson named Jonah).

Prompts:
I really want to see what this sparks for you, so if you have an idea please take it and run! But if you're stuck for ideas, here are some prompts expanding on the likes in my dear creator letter.

I love food and cooking, which is always great for Jewish holidays! Candle-lighting is a lot of fun too, and I'm down for secular and Jewish religious takes on Hanukkah. Per my music like, I enjoy lots of Hanukkah songs from silly Jewish a cappella groups to Woody Guthrie to Yiddish to liturgical music.

DNWS from my signup:

General DNW: Generative AI, bigotry expressed as an unchecked truth through the work, positive portrayals of fascism, sitcom style second hand embarrassment, whitewashing characters of color, magical cure of disability or illness (assistive coping techniques or devices okay), High School AU, Harry Potter AU or references to Harry Potter, omegaverse, spiders, animated or moving art, genderbent to het, works focused on Christianity (Christian prayer, going to church, Christian religious beliefs, Christian religious practices) and/or Christian holidays (Christmas, Easter, Boxing Day, Epiphany, Advent) (one-line mentions of time of year/brief window dressing of secular decorations okay). Continued unwelcome flirting framed as positive or romantic (if a character stiffens at touch/thinks they don't want it, I don't want it to continue) (unwelcome flirting fine in traumatic noncon).

Smut/Kink DNW: Noncon between requested pairing unless made to do it. Parent/Child Incest (Selfcest always welcome). Humiliation and Degradation. ABDL. Omegaverse. Emetophilia, Piss, and Scat. Forced to Penetrate. Fisting With Descriptions of Internal Anatomy ("Han fisted Leia, and hit her cervix.") Hole Training. Ignored Safeword (Unless part of CNC and person has actual way to end scene). Inflation. Sounding. Woundplay. Hate sex.
