Characters: Gabi Mosely (Black woman)
What is it? description of canon or a link to a canon promo (optional) Found is a TV series revolving around Gabi Mosely, a former kidnap victim who now owns a crisis management service that helps find victims in cases where the police have dropped the ball. Her secret weapon is Sir/ Hugh Evans, the man who kidnapped her as a teen. Gabi has him chained in her basement and forces him to help her solve cases. Yeah, it's exactly how it sounds. There is tension and angst galore.
What kind of thing am I requesting? I would love smut or dark romance, but this fandom is really lacking in fic, so honestly, anything would be welcome. There are other diverse and queer characters in the show, but I didn't see them in the tag set originally, and when I found them, it was too late to change my sign-up. The show only has two seasons, but it's worth watching.

Fandom: Khyber Shards
Characters: Ari and Esri are both men of color. Ari is an ambiguously brown man (his player thinks that Dev Patel or a young Oscar Isaac should play Ari in a live-action adaptation of Khyber Shards). Esri was described as "if the Jolly Green Giant's son was a KPop Idol" in an early episode, implying that Esri would be East Asian. In addition, Esri's most significant relative would also be East Asian if the characters were from the real world instead of a fantasy world.
What is it?: Khyber Shards is a D&D 5e Actual Play focusing on four former child soldiers with aberrant marks, magical birthmarks that give them destructive powers and cause their bearers to be discriminated against. The characters spend the first 36 episodes trying to hide their marks, but when that fails they form a school a la the X-Men.
Since the show is complete, I suggest the beginning so you can get the full experience. Episode two will introduce all the requested characters. Do note that there is a slight echo (two players are in one room), and one player accidentally named his character a slur (it got retconned immediately when the player discovered this, but the audio from the episodes before the retcon was not edited to no longer include the slur). If this is an issue for you but you still want to watch as much as possible, then I would suggest instead that you watch the first 10 minutes of this recap, and then start watching from this episode. That episode still contains all of the requested characters. I'd say that the episode after this one is also where the show really starts to feel like an X-Men story as opposed to more generic fantasy about people oppressed for their powers.

What is it? Book Trilogy. The first book is the unholy love-child of Harry Potter and Lord of the Flies. In THIS school for magic, it's every child for themself, the school is full of monsters that want to kill you (if one of your fellow students doesn't off you first), and the school itself punishes you for late or missing work in very ... creative ways. Novik's narrator, El, is a cynical young woman who is trying really, really hard to avoid her destiny as the dark queen of the world, even though mass destruction is the only thing she's good at.
What kind of thing am I requesting? An exploration of Guo Yi Liu's family and culture, or her POV on a dark ritual from the 3rd book.
Fandom: The Lazarus Project (TV)

What is it? This 8-episode British TV series is the smartest time loop story I've ever seen, with a side of James Bond spy thriller and action. I love the brilliant multi-racial cast in modern London and the truly surprising plot twists as a tiny group of people try to keep the human race from wiping itself out. It includes sharp tension between the greater good and personal happiness - bring on the angst.
What kind of thing am I requesting? Shiv negotiating a world that time loops when he was the only one who perceived it, or an exploration of his relationships with others on his team.
Fandom: Warrior (TV 2019)
Characters: Ah Toy, Wang Chao
What is it? Like Peaky Blinders, spaghetti Westerns, and/or kung-fu films? You'll love this! Bruce Lee was the original creator of this sexy, pulpy, action-filled genre series that highlights the history of Chinese immigrants in 1870's San Francisco. Enjoy the canonically queer characters, complex characterization, and some of the best martial arts action I've ever seen. The show doesn't shy away from the ugliness of period-typical racism, sexism and sexual exploitation in a city poised on the edge of a race war, a class war, or both. There is political intrigue among the ruling class of San Francisco, the Tongs and business interests of Chinatown, the Irish police, and the Irish 'Working Men' fighting furiously for the jobs Chinese immigrants will work for less.
What kind of thing am I requesting? Ah Toy and Wang Chao are my two favorite characters. Both of them are incredibly clever and brave; they arrived in San Francisco with nothing and somehow carved out space, wealth, power, and independence in a world where that is incredibly difficult. Show me how they managed it!
