Incest Mini-Challenge: A Family Affair 2024

Some people say the best part of waking up is Folgers in your cup… but personally, even though I'm a coffee lover, waking up to new fanworks for one of my beloved incest ships is even better! Do you feel the same way? Do you have incest ships or themes in mind for at least one of your Yuletide requests this year? Then A Family Affair, the Yuletide mini-challenge for works featuring incest, is for you!

Selfcest, clonecest, adopted/stepfamily incest, one-sided attraction, "AU where they're related", cousin incest in historical canons where it's not a taboo, and so on are on-topic for this challenge if you feel like they are. We're not going to police what counts as "incest-y enough".

How do I participate?

Leave a comment on this post linking to your Yuletide letter (if applicable) and letting people know what fandoms and characters you're requesting and what kinds of incest you're interested in receiving gift works about. At a minimum, you should include:

• Your AO3 username
• A link to your Yuletide letter (or a mention of the fact that you don't have one, just so we know you didn't forget the link)
• A list of the fandoms and characters you're requesting that are relevant to this challenge, and what incest ships you're interested in for them

It's also a good idea to include some more details about what you'd like to receive. Consider answering some or all of the following questions, especially if you're signing up without a letter:

• What kinds of familial relationships are you interested in (mother/son, twincest, etc.)? (You might think it's obvious from who the characters are, but some people might be reading the comments looking to pick up a new canon!)
• Do you want to receive works with explicit sexual content?
• Do you want to receive works where the characters are underage?
• What kind of relationship dynamics are you interested in (romantic fluff, consensual-but-angsty, dubcon, grooming, noncon, etc.)?

If you want to advertise your requested fandoms as being particularly rich in incest potential, or even containing canon incest, please do! If you've written a promo post for your fandom, this is a great place to link to it (and if you haven't written one yet, it's not too late!).

How do I tag the works I make for this challenge?

When you post a work for this challenge, tag it "Yuletide Family Affair" so other interested participants can easily find it. You're also encouraged to use a non-Yuletide-specific freeform tag that describes the type of relationship(s) in the work (for example, "Brother/Sister Incest", "Parent/Child Incest", or just plain "Incest").

Fire Emblem: Genealogy of the Holy War - Julia/Seliph (half-brother and sister)
Turning a Sphere Outside In - female narrator/male narrator (brother and sister)
Monster Prom - Miranda and any of her sisters

What kinds of familial relationships are you interested in (mother/son, twincest, etc.)? Siblings, self-cest, and pseudo-incest (raised together; alternative versions of relatives met in adulthood; reincarnation; etc).

Do you want to receive works with explicit sexual content?: Sure! Though in the case of Seliph/Julia I'd rather it not be just a PWP (unless it's one of those 'the premise of this smut fic is that the main character believes he has been abandoned by God' type of smutfics, haha)

Do you want to receive works where the characters are underage?: That's fine! Though no younger than 13 for anything explicit.

What kind of relationship dynamics are you interested in (romantic fluff, consensual-but-angsty, dubcon, grooming, noncon, etc.)?: No outright predation or non-con; I prefer more self-hating repression until it can no longer be held back, loving too hard such that it 'crosses boundaries', secretly wanting it but not being able to admit it, etc. If dub-con, I prefer mutual questionable consent, i.e. both being drunk or similar. I also love when one party feels really ashamed of themselves, but the other (typically the younger/more innocent one) just really really loves their sibling and is waiting for them to come around <3 I love incest as a screwed-up response to trauma, and accidental incest (leading to intense shame or trauma later), but also incest that is genuinely romantic and loving, even if the world is against them.

In regards to canon: Genealogy of the Holy War does have canon incest - and Julia/Seliph is (in some formats) one of them!! :D The two are half-siblings (and Julia herself is the product of a half-sibling marriage) A full write-up of the incest in this and a couple other Fire Emblem canons is here, and if you want a (very long!) overview of Genealogy of the Holy War in general, that's over here! Unfortunately, this isn't the sort of fandom that's easy to pick up in time for Yuletide... But if even one person gets a lil interested in FE4 because of me, that's victory. :) (I mean, just look at them!! They're so adorable~~)

On the other hand, if you were looking for a shiny new 0-fanfictions-on-ao3 canon incest fandom you could familiarise yourself with for free in less than half an hour... May I direct you to the incomparable Turning a Sphere Outside In by Huggbees? I did a promo post for it over here, but tl;dr it's a gag sub of a memetically-popular 90s educational video about topology in which what starts as pure mathematics descends into incestuous drama that is just begging for elaboration in fanfic <3
