Yuletide Nomination Coordination Station 2023

WARNING: Do NOT submit nominations here. Post for coordination ONLY.

This post is where people declare what they have nominated, or ask other people to nominate for them. So if you do comment and/or add your nominations to the spreadsheet, that's great, because it helps other people decide what to nominate, but it WILL NOT result in your fandoms or characters being in the tagset. The only place to nominate is the Yuletide tagset. Use the comments on this post and the coordination Google spreadsheet to coordinate nominations with others.
  • For information about nominating fandoms and characters, what is eligible for nomination, and other important links and announcements, refer to [community profile] yuletide_admin.
  • Nominations run Sunday September 17th to Thursday September 28th. Nominations will be approved after that time.
  • Before tags are approved (after September 28th), you can only see your own nominations.
  • You can nominate up to 4 fandoms and up to 4 characters in each fandom.
Please copy and paste the following information to comment on this post. Every item is optional except fandom.
  • A nomination is something you plan to nominate. A request is something you're hoping someone else will nominate for you, because you ran out of slots.
  • View and edit the google sheet here: Yuletide 2023 Nomination Coordination Station.
  • If you can add your information to the spreadsheet yourself, please do! That would really help. PLEASE DO NOT SORT THE SHEET. If you want to view the list by nominated fandoms, use the autogenerated "sort by fandom" tabs.
  • During the nomination period, the spreadsheet will get re-sorted by username daily at 8PM EST (find your local time), to keep the data tidier.

Help Wanted

If you have a few minutes and enjoy a bit of data entry, please volunteer to update the spreadsheet with information the comments in this post! If you do, add the data from the comment to the spreadsheet and reply to the original comment with Added to spreadsheet. (h/t to [personal profile] ashling for the original coordination station post text and spreadsheet!) Don't forget to go to the tagset and submit your promised noms!

Hello! Would you be willing to throw in Worldbuilding (Nimona 2023) as your fourth character? (Also, you should use the (Nimona 2023) disambig on all your nominations - don't forget the year in case someone else wants to nominate the comic because the same tag can't be nominated under two different fandoms)

Hm. This might be one that has to go to the mods; currently there are no disambiguating parentheticals for characters in either movie or webcomic on AO3, and I used the canonical tags that popped up when I submitted. I'll ping the mods later when I'm not at work to see what they say. You're almost certainly right about what should be done, but I want to get mods to make it official in an admin post or something.

The mods asked for this kind of disambiguation in the nominations post in this section:

Disambiguation
When a character name could appear in more than one fandom, or is common, or short, please put information in brackets after the name to show where it belongs. For example:
-Bonnie Parker (Bonnie and Clyde 1967)
-Robin Hood (Prince of Thieves)
-Tulku (The Shadow 1994)
-Leonardo da Vinci (Da Vinci's Demons)

Tagset tags don't have to be canonicals, and it's often easier for the mods if they aren't because canonical tags frequently wander into other fandoms, so part of the tagmodding process that takes place between nominations closing and sign ups opening is checking all the tags to see if they'll wander and editing them if they don't. By putting the disambiguation in, we can help nominations approvals go faster!

The reason I know the Nimona tags need disambiguations for sure is because I looked the canonical tags' tag pages up.

  • If you look at the AO3 page for Nimona's canonical character tag here you can see that under the "Parent Fandoms" section there are two fandoms listed: both Nimona (2023) and Nimona (Webcomic)!
  • This is because the tag Nimona (Nimona) is associated with both fandoms.
  • Because this is a canonical association assigned by AO3 tag wranglers, the mods can't remove that association from the Nimona (Nimona) tag, so if both fandoms that the tag belongs to are in the tagset, Nimona (Nimona) would wander into both fandoms, which is undesirable.
  • But "Nimona (Nimonia 2023)" will stay put because it's not a character tag that's been synned to the Nimona (Nimona) canonical (if it had been, it would show up in the "Tags with the same meaning" section).

Okay! I will edit them later today. Thanks for taking the time to elaborate.

No problem!! I love explaining things and I think this particular AO3 quirk is really hard to intuit if you haven't actually managed a tagset and spent a couple hours chasing down wandering tags haha.
