Yulebuilding

Greetings, everyone! Yuletide contains multitudes, and a chunk of those multitudes would really like to request worldbuilding. Thus, here is a sub-challenge post for those of us who love worldbuilding, either on the giving or receiving end. This year, we even got to nominate Worldbuilding as a character tag! Exciting!

To participate
  • Leave a comment on this fic with a link to your letter if you are interested in receiving worldbuilding. Optionally, add any extra worldbuilding likes and prompts you may have into your comment.
  • If you don't have a letter, you can still leave prompts here! Please ensure your comment includes your AO3 username, requested fandoms, and any characters you're requesting.
  • When uploading your fic to the archive, tag it with Yulebuilding and Worldbuilding so the rest of us can find it!

It's not necessary to interact with Yulebuilding in any way to give or request worldbuilding for Yuletide, but this post is here to make finding other aficionados easier. Enjoy!

I have three fandoms where I'd really love worldbuilding this year!

Astielle - Anything! I'm super intrigued for anything about the monsters - especially the ones we haven't seen any non-Karzarul examples of, like abysscales and shimmerbats and rootboars and Black Drakonis. But I'd also love anything about the mythology and how it has changed over time, or trade agreements, or that one churro place, or really anything about the bits of the world we've only seen a little tidbit of.

Boxcar children - I am obsessed with how the Boxcar Children books fit into the larger world the Boxcar Children live in. I'd love outside POV on the publicity around them (which we only get hints existed, but must have, because people keep recognizing them as the kids who lived in the boxcar for many books after.) I'd love outsider POV on them in general actually - OCs or any of the people they meet in the books. I'd also love something that engages with the way time passes in these books - how Henry grows up from age fifteen to college over the course of the first nineteen books, during which fifty years pass in the world around them - or anything that involves the Alden interacting with current events during the time the books are written. (The Aldens tour a missile silo? The Aldens and the Freedom Riders? The Aldens and the Summer of Love? The Aldens during the Great War? Henry Alden and the Selective Service?)

Rock Candy Mountain - anything that expands on this world would be great! I love the hobo world that we only see from a couple of perspectives, and I love that this is a world where magic and the Devil are very, very present. (Feel free to write me worldbuilding in this one that doesn't involve any of the requested characters, too.)
