Hello Yuletiders! I've got a new mini-challenge for you: Make the Yuletide Gay

The purpose of this challenge is to help those of us who like canon f/f & m/m couples to find one another's requests and to increase the amount of canon m/m & f/f in the collection!

Canon certainly encompasses a lot of things and everyone has their own definition. Depending on the culture, era, and level of censorship in which your canon was made, one level of canon might be more explicit than another. There's also the case of Word of God, one-night-stands, exes, and one-sided relationships to factor in!

For the purposes of this post, all that is asked is that you list your canon ships in good faith. If you see that someone's request isn't what you'd consider to be canon, please keep looking for someone else that does have what you're looking for rather than debating it.

How does it work?

• List your Ao3 name, a link to your letter, and specify what canon f/f and/or m/m ships you're requesting, as well as any specific prompts you may have for them. If you have the time/inclination to do a little promo post/primer on your canon ship(s), do it!
• Look through the comments and see if there are any canons you know or would like to get into!
• Tag your any canon m/m or f/f fics you write this year with "Make The Yuletide Gay" so other people can find them when the collection opens!

Prompts:

These two are adorable. I’d love for something fluffy and/or domestic - We don’t see enough of their ’mutually happy’ moments in canon, so anything where the two are happy and together would be lovely.

I love the fact that they commit and actually do stay together, despite the time, place, and Rosen being Rosen. So I’d love to see fic centered around that, like the tale of the engagement ring, how Rosen came up with the idea, etc. Or the two getting married ’for real’, be it a grand old wedding with Udo as best man and Stange officiating, or just quietly taking sacrement together in an empty church.

The Favourite (2018): Sarah Churchill Duchess of Marlborough [requested only Sarah but more than happy to see her shipped with Anne, as in canon]
--If you love the idea of messy Georgian women fighting and literally fucking for power, in a black comedy/satirical setting, this is certainly a canon for you, and Anne/Sarah (as childhood friends grown into constant companions/codependent Queen and Advisor dynamics) has such a long history behind it and such a potent influence on the plot even postcanon that I'd love to explore it.

Canon gay/lesbian pairings: Asgardians of the Galaxy: Annabelle Riggs/Ren Kimura, arguably Annabelle/Valkyrie (at least canonically one-sided)

About the Ship

Annabelle Riggs, formerly of the Defenders and most recently of the Asgardians of the Galaxy, is an archaeologist, a lesbian, an initiate of the Valkyrior, and is stumbling toward superheroism in her own right. She was introduced in Cullen Bunn's Fearless Defenders title where she quickly developed feelings for Valkyrie (planting an impressive kiss on her within the first issue). Annabelle's infatuation with Valkyrie would drive her character for the first half of the comic's run, leading to a series of events that would end with Annabelle and Valkyrie sharing a body in order to save Annabelle's life. Their relationship remains close but complicated.

Ren Kimura, of the Defenders (and maaaybe initiated into the Asgardians of the Galaxy as of the title's finale), is a dancer with a proficiency in a multitude of styles, an Inhuman with razor ribbons for hands, a fledgling superhero who fights with the power of dance, and a lesbian. She met Annabelle shortly after her Inhuman heritage revealed itself and the two quickly fell in love and began a romantic relationship.

Asgardians of the Galaxy opens with the two of them on a date during which Annabelle tells Ren that she has to something to ask her before being interrupted by the plot in the form of Angela. Annabelle is quickly whisked away, though the two do keep in contact and are reunited during the last few issues of the comic. After Valkyrie suffers death by crossover event, a desperate Ren travels through time and space to rescue Annabelle. They remain together, Annabelle vowing to continue to fight in Valkyrie's memory and Ren vowing to follow Annabelle wherever she goes.

Prompts: I would love to read anything set during the span of Hickey and Gibson's canon relationship or anything where it splinters off on another path, however improbable -- fix-it AUs where they end up surviving, settling down in England or abroad (Hickey's delirious Melville fantasies coming to fruition?) and having to figure out what they mean to one another outside of the confines of a ship, or where they meet under different circumstances (dark alley? 1840s prison? 1840s women's prison?) and enjoy the same murky emotional push and pull characterized by dark suspicions and strange gestures of deeply-felt affection. The canon may begin with the tail-end of their love affair, but I'd love a vision of their courtship over that first long dark winter, anything where Gibson has interiority and initiative and Hickey wants to climb him like a beanpole.

This is a super-cute sitcom that ran for one season, about a male couple who decide to have a child via a surrogate.

The Creature Court Trilogy by Tansy Rayner Roberts is a fantasy series with more canon queer couples/characters than the f/f couple I've requested, and that mixes shapeshifting magic and fantasy with history, theatre, and 1920s flappers. There's a hidden world most people can't see where the sky falls every night and people with magic fight it back to save the sleeping daylight world. My ship is the daylight ruler of the city and a member of the hidden magical world who falls for her while protecting her at the end of the series. There is a main bisexual character who dies and a lot of darker content if that's something you try to avoid, though fwiw the death is in a context where lots more straight characters die and didn't bother me personally as someone who avoids bury your gays. And while this is an established older series, the author recently regained her rights to it and re-published the ebooks so if you're looking to pick up a new canon it comes with the added bonus that you're more directly supporting an author!

Lip Service got called the Scottish L Word a lot when it was airing, and is exactly what that implies - a lesbian romantic drama in Scotland. The characters I've requested are in a canon love triangle and all the characters on this show are in general very likeable but complex/fallible and trying really hard to get things right but making amusingly terrible life and romantic choices along the way.

Out at the Wedding is a little indie rom com movie about a straight woman who accidentally (then deliberately) lies to her conservative family about having a girlfriend when she goes home for her sister's wedding, and her friends encourage her to find a fake girlfriend back home to play along instead of coming clean. The main character and her friends are exactly as much of a mess as you might expect with that premise, but hidden inside all of that is a sweet gem of a romance that develops between the fake girlfriend Risa and the recently married sister Jeannie.

Doctrine of Labyrinths - Sarah Monette: One-sided Felix-->Mildmay

Lush fantasy melodrama full of codependence and great hurt/comfort. I’ve read the whole thing by now, so spoilers are welcome. One-sided incestuous attraction (half-brothers who met as adults) is canon; you can keep that as-is or have it returned, either is good.

Prompts:

- Missing scene from Felix and Mildmay’s journey across the continent in book 1, something where Felix has a bad turn and Mildmay successfully calms him down. Just lean all the way into the h/c in their weird-but-deep sibling bond.
- Full-on guilty frantic brothercest. (During a time in canon when they’re both mentally capable of consenting.) Especially if it’s already an ongoing situation when the story starts, so it’s not a story about how they fell into it but about how they can’t seem to get out.

Leif & Thorn (Webcomic): Leif/Thorn, one-sided Kale-->Thorn

Ongoing fantasy dramedy, with a cross-cultural romance and a great ensemble cast. Leif/Thorn is canon. I’d love fic about them, and/or any romance (canon or not) that doesn’t break them up. Kale having a crush is canon and writers can have it returned if you write Thorn as polyam.

Prompts:

- Something sexy from the “Thorn studied magic” AU, where Thorn uses his powers to suppress the consent-subverting functions of Leif’s microchip.
- Holiday fic where Leif and Thorn share their traditions with each other. Warmth and fluffiness a plus.
- Tender, loving, slow-and-thorough Thorn/Kale -- with Leif’s permission and/or participation. In which Thorn notices how touch-starved Kale is and makes every effort to rectify that for him.

(I can see some fandoms listed in a spreadsheet if I click on the word "responses" in the post, but it seems like a very short list relative to all the comments here, and I know for sure that some of the fandoms that were listed in this post before are not on the spreadsheet...)
