FANDOM NAME: The Forgotten Beasts of Eld - Patricia A. McKillip

WHAT MAKES IT GREAT: This is a high fantasy book, starring a sorceress who can talk to legendary animals and has a whole menagerie in her mountain home. Sybel lives in isolation with the animals, wanting to call a particular beast whose name she cannot find, until one day the struggles of the human kingdoms below land her with a baby she fosters, and she gets dragged into human politics in a way that tests her very spirit. Sybel is the only character in the tagset. She's a white-haired lady, doesn't tend to display emotions, and she mostly wants to just keep pursuing her sorcerous interests.

If you like very lovely prose, isolated female characters, and gorgeous fantasy world, you might really enjoy this book. McKillip's books always have this, well, fantastic feel with the writing, and I love her characters.
