Eternal Love
Quick Synopsis: A xianxia drama, so expect lots of fantasy, magic, immortals, demons, spiritual cultivation and martial arts. The story focuses on Bai Qian and follows her throughout several stages of her life over tens of thousands of years as she fights epic battles, falls in love (multiple times), suffers, and triumphs. The plot is fairly complex and hard to explain fully without spoiling everything, so I won’t spell it out in full detail, but the primary focus is her romantic plot, with a bonus secondary romantic plot between two additional characters that is also quite excellent.
What Makes It Great: Do you like Older Woman/Younger Man dynamics? This will feed you. Do you like Older Man/Younger Woman dynamics? This will also feed you.
The romance(s) are central to the plot and are taken extremely seriously (while still having lots of light and playful hilarious moments). They both go through so much development with lots of angst (for those who love that), but ultimately end on a happy note (for those who need that).
It’s got very rich and sprawling fantasy/mythological worldbuilding that lets both canon and fic writers play around with quite a lot of freedom and exciting avenues to explore.
It also features: take charge women, stoic men experiencing several soft emotions, single dad house husband, courtly intrigue, and beautiful disasters.
Bonus: Pokemon. Don’t ask. It will become clear within the first few episodes.
Where you can find it: Netflix, YouTube, and Viki (in increasing order of how good the subtitles are, according to general consensus)
