I haven't read more than the first few chapters of the first book. But people keep telling me that one of the differences is how funny the books are, so I made an assumption.

Aw, fair enough. Having watched the miniseries, I can say that the books do have a bit more of a sense of humor with their drama (well, especially the second book).

Both versions have their strengths - and the plot diverges almost entirely (including some of the characters' personalities and alignments). Thank you for bringing the miniseries to my attention! I totally want to read some fic about this version of Gestalt ...
