FANDOM NAME: The King of a Rainy Country - novel by Brigid Brophy, first published 1956

WHAT MAKES IT GREAT:

This starts out as one of those post war women's coming of age books, with bedsits and coffee and slightly suspicious jobs. But it breaks out of that form when the narrator and her sort-of boyfriend/definitely flatmate discover a picture of the girl she kissed at school in a pornographic book. So they set out to find her...

It's very funny and also very sad, and I never know whether I want more of the same or all the fix-it, but if you like mid-twentieth century British literature with canon queerness this could be one for you.

WHERE CAN I FIND IT?(optional): Various publishers have put this out over the years. It should be pretty easy to pick up a second-hand copy online.
