FANDOM NAME: The Alienist

WHAT MAKES IT GREAT: Just the best crime-fighting team in 1896 New York City! Based off the book by Caleb Carr, it's about Laszlo Kreizler, an early criminal psychologist and his crew of misfits trying to solve the murders of boy prostitutes by a serial killer before serial killers were a thing.

There are some significant character relationship changes in the show from the book, and since I'm an utter romantic, I am working off the show, not the novel.

So the band of Misfits are:

Laszlo Kreizler, who is way ahead of his time in criminal profiling and just about everything else, including sexuality, child psychology, and equality between genders. He runs a school for children who have experienced psychological trauma and have a difficult time functioning in society.

John Moore, Laszlo's Harvard chum, who is just the dearest man with the biggest heart who often comes off as pompous and a bit traditional. He's had his heart broken and drinks a lot.

Sara Howard, who is the first woman to work for the police department under the Police Commissioner, Theodore Roosevelt (yes, that Teddy Roosevelt), who doesn't let anything stop her from her goals, including her friend and old neighbor, John trying to protect her.

Marcus and Lucious Isaacson, twin brothers who are Jewish, and scientists, and are mostly despised by the predominantly Irish-Catholic police department.

I admit I am here primarily for Sara/John because I just adore them together. But there is plenty of other shippy pairs if that doesn't strike your fancy. I mean...just look at these two:

Man I keep meaning to watch this! I wonder if it's on Netflix/hulu & I can marathon before sign ups?

I think it's on Netflix outside the US, but unfortunately, unless you have access to TNT, I can't find it. If you want to find, uh, less kosher methods of watching it, I'm sure that's possible. :/

YES! This will inspire me to finally finish it! It was SO intense, I needed time between episodes!

I was bummed that Stevie wasn't as involved as he is in the books, but I soon got over that with how amazing everyone is in the show.

We are getting a second season! So since Stevie is the narrator of the second novel, maybe he will have a larger role? But yay! more love!

I FINALLY got the book on loan from the library (the waitlist was so long) and am hoping to speed through it and the show because this seems like a fandom right up my alley, and I love going into Yuletide with a new fandom to read/write/request!

So I wasn't that impressed with the book but OMG THE SHOW. I binged it in two days (thanks for the free episodes on your website, TNT) and I TOTALLY SEE WHY YOU WANT SARA/JOHN FIC. I am in love and am glad I got around to watching this in time for Yuletide!

YES. Yeah, the books were good, but a tad dry. I loved the show versions of the characters much more.

Yes! I will definitely offer to write for this fandom. -Roadstergal
