This is going to be a deeply interesting Yuletide; parts of my assignment are totally in my wheelhouse, and other parts are way, way outside it in a way that hasn't been the case before. That said, in the context of Yuletide and my particular writing muse, challenge is very much a feature rather than a bug.

There will, however, very probably be bears before this is over.

I love my assignment even though all I have to work with so far is the fandom, the characters, and my recipient's EXCELLENT letters of Yuletides Past.

This Yuletide, I read a representative sample of request letters before deciding to offer this fandom and, with one or two outliers, they boiled down to three types of stories, all of which sounded like they'd be a kick to write. So I offered the fandom plus "any characters" and voila--I got exactly what I had hoped to write. I spent the afternoon brainstorming with my best friend and have ordered the canon for review and EVERYTHING IS GLORIOUS.

I got assigned a recip I was planning to treat anyway - I actually adjusted my offers to match on their letter, since I figured that might cut out the middle man. :D So I'm feeling optimistic! I went through their list of likes today and came out the other side with like five story ideas.

Oooh, I like my Recipient! A stranger, but we seem to have all sorts of unlooked-for things in common, aside from the request. Already looking forward to meeting this person properly after 1 January.

A little bit worried, because my recipient was very light on details in their request, so I don't have much to go on. I have a couple of ideas already, but can only hope that they'll like them. Hoping that the lack of detail means a genuine "I'll be happy with anything!" in this case.

I guess I'm cautiously optimistic. I'm going to review canon and hope I can come up with an actual plot for the fic as opposed to just a character sketch type of thing (not that there is anything wrong with that.)

I really don't want to let my recipient down. Sometimes in the past I've felt like maybe I did, though everyone gave me very warm thanks for their fics of course.
