A tip I hit upon, I think last year: if you're having trouble finding a beta, like no one signed up to be a beta for the fandom and hippos are having no luck, see if people other than your recipient requested the same fandom and try contacting them.

Oh, I'm too late for this year but I remembered another "tip."

When I sign up, I try to avoid offering "gimme" fandoms with quick-to-review canons (e.g. standalone movies, songs, etc.). It's useful to have those available as a fallback position, and if you match on them, it defeats that function.

(Conversely, it's considerate to include at least one of these in your requests if you can to give your writer the possible fallback --- but that tip's been here longer than I have.)

Of course, not everyone should feel obligated to do this (e.g. if you really want to write for movies or don't have a gimme fandom that wouldn't be disappointing compared to other options).
