I had a moment of panic when I first saw my assignment, but then I've been panicking at the first sight of assignments for about thirty years and know to give myself 'a day or two' to think about it before declaring that I can't write it. The reason for the panic this time was that the prompt perfectly fitted the fic I'd written last year, so what to do to prevent copying my own work?
It took me about two hours to realise that I'd focussed on Tharkay and Laurence last time and the assignment only required Tharkay, so writing about Tharkay and Temeraire this time was my solution. Once I had worked that out the fic practically wrote itself. Tharkay is one of my favourite characters in the fandom so it was quite a joy to write him again.
The only remaining problem was the title and I even initially uploaded it as Untitled, but luckily hit upon a better idea in time before the collection went live.
The thing I didn't catch before that is that I'd forgotten to ad a summary. *headdesk*
