Yuletide Fandom Promo 2025!

Welcome to the Fandom Promo post, everyone!

Here's where you get those eyes on your fandoms for sign-ups!

Share what makes your Yuletide fandoms the shiniest and why you love them. A big part of Yuletide is how small our fandoms can be, and this is a good way to make sure other people know what gems there are out there!

SPREADSHEET: Check it out! Thank you to Ouie!

Here are some areas you can cover:

Title:
Please put your fandom's title in the subject of your comment, too. This helps people find your promo again.

What sort of things are you likely to request for it?:

Content warnings (ie, rape, incest, racism, gore/violence):
This is at your discretion and is not expected to be comprehensive

(Bonus options: What are you thinking of requesting for this? If you're thinking of nominating worldbuilding, what sort of worldbuilding topics might people explore?)

Useful tip (Not required, but helps people if they want to engage with your fandom!):

- It's best to make each fandom its own entry with its own title in the subject line! That makes it easier for people to find/see what you're promoting! Don't worry about 'spam', that is the entire point of this entry and you're using it exactly as intended.

Title: Shakespeare & Hathaway: Private Investigators

Media: TV show

Approx length: Currently 40 episodes of 45 minutes each, though a new season is starting 24th September

Where to find it: The first four seasons are available on DVD, on BBC iPlayer, and other streaming services. (The new season will be premiering on Alibi in the UK and then coming to iPlayer later.)

What is it, in summary?: A cosy detective series where Frank Hathaway, grumpy ex-cop with a heart of marshmallow, Luella Shakespeare, former hairdresser with a photographic memory, and Sebastian Brudenell, out-of-work actor with a penchant for disguises, solve crimes in modern-day Stratford-upon-Avon. They also encounter a lot of Shakespeare references and get through a lot of snacks.

What do you love about it?: It's light and fluffy fun, and while the plots can sometimes get a little silly, the performances by the central cast give it a great deal of charm and the potential to sometimes dip into slightly deeper emotional waters. The detective trio and their relationships are always a delight: Frank and Lu have their grumpy-sunshine dynamic - except when Frank's being a goof or it's Lu's turn to be the grumpy one - while Sebastian brings a touch of theatrical camp and excessive repertoire of Shakespeare quotes to proceedings. The recurring cast are all enjoyable too, and it's generally just a fun and warm-hearted series to be spending a bit of time with.

What sort of things are you likely to request for it?: I'd be very up for some canon-typical light-hearted hijinks, but I'd be equally interested to see the team dealing with something a bit more serious than their usual fare, with maybe some hurt/comfort elements or a slightly darker case. Them investigating some alleged supernatural activity is always a fun time as well. (Maybe it could even be the real thing this time!) I'm up for shipping Frank and Lu if you want to go there, but like them as purely gen friends too. I'm also a sucker for an 'antagonists forced to work together' plot, so would love a story throwing the team together with their semi-nemesis Sgt Keeler.

Are there sections of canon (rather than the whole canon) that can be consumed by themselves to fulfil your requests, or that showcase particular characters and relationships?: It's a very episodic show and you probably wouldn't have to watch many episodes to get the general flavour. I don't anticipate getting to see any of the new episodes before Yuletide, so won't be basing my requests around any events that might occur in season five.

Content warnings: Nothing beyond the level of non-graphic murder and mild peril you would expect from a daytime cosy detective series.

Oh I'm starting to think that we have compatible taste in mysteries. I barreled through all of this show earlier this year (you've also written me a couple of Ludwig fics). Idk if I'm likely to request it but this issss making me consider.

Ha, same here! I've been on a real comedy-drama procedural kick since watching Ludwig - apparently that balance of lighter tone and a bit of humour but also the chance to have some slightly more high-stakes plotty stuff going on than in a pure sitcom is exactly what I'm in the mood to watch and read/write fic about right now. I've been trying to find shows with the same sort of vibe all year. (Though, sadly, none of them seem to get very big fic fandoms. I've been impatiently waiting for Yuletide to come round for months.) I'm currently watching The Brokenwood Mysteries, which is another one I've found that scratches a similar itch.

This is the first I've heard of Brokenwood Mysteries! I'm adding it to my list.

I take it you've tried Only Murders?

I haven't yet, but I've heard good things and I've been meaning to check it out!

oh if you're looking for comedy mystery, it's imo very hard to beat. I have a lot of cultural connection to Steve Martin + Martin Short which definitely endeared me to it more, but I think even without that it's a joy and a pleasure to watch and it's heavyyy on the comedy, which I really enjoy
