Useful tip (Not required, but helps people if they want to engage with your fandom!):

- It's best to make each fandom its own entry with its own title in the subject line! That makes it easier for people to find/see what you're promoting! Don't worry about 'spam', that is the entire point of this entry and you're using it exactly as intended.

Title: Ludwig

Media: TV show

Approx length: 6 hour-long episodes

Where to find it: It's a BBC show from 2024, available on iPlayer and probably streaming other places as well.

What is it, in summary?: A detective comedy drama starring David Mitchell as reclusive crossword and puzzle creator John Taylor whose sister-in-law Lucy (Anna Maxwell Martin) ropes him into impersonating his twin brother, a police detective who's gone missing. Of course, what's supposed to be a quick in-and-out of the police station to grab a notebook and find out what he was working on soon turns into a longer-term impersonation, and his brother's colleagues do keep expecting him to help solve crimes...

What do you love about it?: It's a delightful series with a very likable cast. While it's both funny and lighter in tone than some more serious detective dramas, the low-key police corruption thriller and mystery of James's disappearance going on in the background give it room for some more complex character dynamics and darker undertones than your typical cosy crime series. John makes a very endearing lead, awkward around people and always feeling overshadowed by his more capable twin, but fundamentally very sweet and willing to do anything for his overly reckless sister-in-law.

What sort of things are you likely to request for it?: I feel like the tone of the show allows a lot of flexibility for anything from lighter comedy to darker and more serious cases, and I'm here for any part of the spectrum. I'd be looking for fic set during the canon era of the show rather than pure backstory, but I'm nonetheless very interested in John's complicated history with his brother and Lucy and the way the situation tests and changes those relationships, plus all the identity shenanigans brought on by his impersonation of James and the police team's eventual discovery that he's not the real DCI Taylor. I'm always up for canon-style casefic, but also situations like John and Lucy having to go undercover as a couple, the potential reversal of James coming back and having to impersonate John and whether he'd be equally successful, outsider POVs on the twin swap, etc.

Are there sections of canon (rather than the whole canon) that can be consumed by themselves to fulfil your requests, or that showcase particular characters and relationships?: Not really, as there's an ongoing storyline, but as yet there's only the one six-episode series to catch up on.

Content warnings: This is mostly on the lighter side as detective dramas go, though there are murder mysteries and hence a certain amount of on-screen blood, etc.
