What is Family Matters?
Unrelated to the sitcom (or anything else, actually), Family Matters is a mini challenge focused on sibling relationships. Whether that be traditional, half, foster/adoptive, or step siblings, siblings of all kinds are welcome. For the purposes of this mini challenge, I am excluding found family (unless there are sibling relationships within) and “I see them as a sibling” relationships (unless, of course, that statement is meant to be literal.) As I won’t be policing anything, please use your best interest and feel free to ask me any questions in the comments.

What about incest?
This is NOT the incest mini challenge. That one’s over here: A Family Affair. Nothing and no one is stopping you from signing up to both if that’s what you want, though.

What if [character]’s sibling isn’t in the tagset?
Good news! As long as at least one sibling is in the tagset (and you’re requesting them), this won’t be a problem.

Constance, being the youngest, probably gets away with the most, but how does Number Two react? How does Rhonda feel no longer being the youngest? There’s so many things you could do and I’m just curious to see this family in their day-to-day!
Any Other Details: I’m a big fan of codependency, or independent characters who finally break and need others’ help but are too proud to accept it. Break them in unique ways so that they need each other and I’ll be very happy!

Fandoms & Requested Characters + Their Siblings: Star Wars Rebels: Servants of the Empire - Jason Fry (Zare Leonis and Dhara Leonis)

Prompts (optional): Servants of the Empire is about Zare Leonis going undercover with the Empire to find and rescue his older sister. That means we don't see very much of them interacting--because Dhara is missing most of the series! So I'm hoping for something that will fill in the gaps either pre-series, with what their relationship looked like as children before they really understood the nature of the fascist state they lived under, or post-series, when they're reunited but Dhara has quite a lot of unresolved trauma, some of which Zare (not being a Force user) isn't equipped to understand.

I also have a pie in the sky prompt for a crossover between this and the Sana Starros comic, which is a spin-off of the also-nominated Star Wars: Doctor Aphra (Comics). Sana Starros, one of the characters nominated for Doctor Aphra, has a not-nominated sibling, Phel Starros. We find out in the Sana Starros comic that Phel rebelled from his family by . . . joining the Imperial military, starting with the academy on Lothal. That's the same academy Dhara and Zare attend. Sana Starros says that at one point she went to the Lothal Academy to try to her brother to leave; I love the parallel between Sana trying to pull her brother out of the academy at roughly the same time that Zare is trying desperately to get into the same academy so he can rescue his own sibling. So anything that involves those two sibling sets bumping into each other would be fun.

Any other details?: An important warning if you don’t know the canon and consider trying it out. Canonically there is; unrequited, one-sided incestuous feelings between the brothers; a magical forced bondage between them making a power imbalance; and explicit m/m non-con (outside of the brothers’ relationship).

I absolutely love every aspect of the brothers’ relationship and how they struggle to be brothers with all the problems they have (arguably unrequited, incestuous feelings the least of them!). I really love stories that focus on their relationship, including just being brothers, however, if the spectre of background, one-sided incestuous leanings is not for you, best not engage!

To avoid the incest, you can write them as an au where there’s no incestuous inclinations, or write them canonically, just more-or-less ignoring the incestuous urges, (as the books themselves MOSTLY, but not completely, do), or part of the work could be them overcoming the issues the unrequited incestuous desire causes. Just love these brothers ❤️

Because it's a secret, we don't see much of their relationship, but they seem close enough to tell each other secrets while also being VERY different

What Is It?: M/M fantasy 1920s historical romance trilogy that is a spinoff of the Magic in Manhattan series.
What Am I requesting?: Jade is a supporting character who runs a a speakeasy with her siblings in New York. Jade smuggles the rum, Stella sings, and Benson manages the house. Sebastian is one of the main characters, and much of his motivation in the series is to protect and help his little brother Mateo, who can see the future.

Prompts: I've only requested Speaker, but she's very close to her sister, Tracker, and it would be very easy to include her in any story involving Speaker. The two of them live and travel together, and they're constantly on each other's minds, worrying about each other, supporting each other, and getting into sibling squabbles. Akarak consider twins like them inherently 'split souls,' and these two are close even by those standards - really, it'd be harder to do a story about Speaker without including Tracker.
