What is it? A 9 minute long music video, set at the fictional Miss Queen of Hearts national pageant, Miss Montana (implied open lesbian) and Miss Florida (very closeted daughter of implied Republican Congresswoman Dawson, the host of the pageant) have a tangled past and end up hooking up behind closed doors at the pageant. What is it? Kids/teen Australian TV show from the 2000s about three sixteen year old girls who turn into mermaids when they touch water. Emma is the uptight type A character and Rikki is the go-with-the-flow rebellious type.
What kind of thing am I requesting? Emma/Rikki shippy fic featuring their complementary powers and/or enemies-to-lovers vibes.

Fandom: The Sex Lives of College Girls
Characters: Leighton Murray, Kimberly Finkle
What is it? A 20 minute new adult comedy about four very different girls who share a dorm suite in their freshman year. There are 2x 10 episode seasons with a 3rd set to air from November 2024. Leighton is a canonical lesbian who hates being associated with anything queer and Kimberly is most definitely not canonically queer but has strong potential in my opinion!
What kind of thing am I requesting? Shippy Leighton/Kimberly fic, Leighton character studies featuring her queerness.

Fandom: Mossa and Pleiti series - Malka Older
Characters: Mossa, Pleiti
What is it? Sci fi novella duology (currently) set in a future pseudo-Victorian society on railway lines suspended above Jupiter, following the mystery-solving exploits of Mossa (who is Sherlock-inspired) and Pleiti (who is Watson-inspired). Mossa and Pleiti are canonically in a relationship but the boundaries of that are somewhat nebulous.
What kind of thing am I requesting? Mossa and Pleiti mystery shenanigans, romance shenanigans, hurt/comfort, worldbuilding.

Characters: Dulcie Collins, Eddie Redcliffe
What is it? An Australian small town crime comedy centring on a lesbian detective, her annoying big-city partner, and their crack team of police. Dulcie is canonically a lesbian and married to a woman while Eddie expresses an interest in exploring women at the end of the show.
What kind of thing am I requesting? Silly little mystery stories, humorous lesbian or lesbian-adjacent shenanigans.

What is it?: 3 Episode OVA anime of a magical girl and her adventures with a gun-happy inspector (link to where you can buy it in my letter)

Show does have a level of fanservice, as expected from the creator, but in this version Honey’s romantic entanglements led her to Natsuko instead of any male. It’s a fun, action packed, and vividly colored series which only takes about 3 hours to watch.

All my fandom requests this year have queer potential! One of them is based on overtly lesbian drawings by Gerda Wegener. So if you want a five-minute-fandom with opportunity for imaginative worldbuilding, here is your chance!

"Cuckoo" and other lesbian illustrations by Gerda Wegener (1924) I've nominated a bunch of wondrous and wonderful lesbian water color illustrations by painter Gerda Wegener (wife of famous transwoman Lili Elbe). The drawings include erotic situations with women in and out of costumes, a cute devil and possibly a real fairy, some nude bathing, meta-like enjoyment of art, hints of a huge castle garden as well as intimate bedrooms... in other words: an opportunity for wondrous worldbuilding with lesbian shenannigans! Wegener's beautiful drawings can be found in my letter.

The Midnight Club (TV) Emotionally deep show by Mike Flanagan about a hospice for young people, where they "extend" their lives by telling each other stories at midnight. At least two out of my requested characters are queer, and I really want to know more about them and have them bond over their othernesses. So pretty open request with opportunity for queer teen angst!

The Bite Hilarious miniseries about an imagined new wave of covid that turns people into zombies while politicians do little to hinder the onset of an actual apocalypse. Our two main characters is an unlikely duo who team up because they live in the same building: Rachel is a super smart black doctor who understands science, Lily is a white professional dominatrix who understands people. I think Lily is queer, whereas Rachel seems straight - but if it's their last night on earth, who knows? Tell me how the two fare after the miniseries' open ending.

Three of my six requests this year are queer romances, and another two touch upon queerness in ways I'd love explored further.

The Last Binding Series by Freya Marske
Queer historical fantasy trilogy, magic and intrigue in Edwardian England. My selected characters are the relationship developed in the third book. Lord Hawthorn and Alan Ross bicker and banter and have complimentary tastes in bedroom games.

Forsaken Fae Series by R.A. Steffan
Contemporary queer romance, an enemies-to-lovers story between a repressed fae prince and a snarky, kinky, queer human. When a threat from the fae world threatens the mortal realm, they must work together, and eventually progress from detesting the other's presence to repeatedly risking their own lives to save each other.

The Will Darling Adventures by K. J. Charles
Queer historical spy adventure novels. Will Darling is trying to find a place in the world after the Great War, and finds himself wrapped up in a world of secrets, lies, and intrigue. He also finds himself wrapped up with the infuriating and thrilling Kim Secretan, who will turn his life upside down but might also give him something to live for.

Everything I Never Told You by Celeste Ng
A bittersweet novel about a Chinese-American family whose lives are changed by the tragic death of their eldest daughter, and the secrets they'd been keeping from each other begin slowly unraveling. Nath, the middle child, suspects a classmate and former friend of his knows something about his sister's death, may even be responsible for it. But Jack Wolff has a secret of a different sort, and may not be Nath's enemy after all.

The Thrilling Adventure Hour
In the Beyond Belief series of the podcast/show, Frank and Sadie Doyle are married mediums who live the high life drinking martinis and cracking witicisms and occasionally assisting friends with spooky encounters. They're 100% devoted to each other, but definitely not 100% straight--they would love each other regardless of their bodies. If shenanigans were to happen that swapped their bodies or created duplicates, they would totally all bang it out. And heck, they might be T4T. All I know is this M/F couple is definitely not cishet, and I'd be happy to read something exploring that idea.

Details: Like many sports anime, both these series contain strong emotional bonds and deep trust between men - which is a great jumping-off point for a romantic relationship. I always love characters grappling with being attracted to someone of the same gender for the first time, a later-in-life coming out, or the unique challenges of dating a teammate or colleague.

Fandom: Papa and Daddy's Home Cooking
Details: There's an inherent queerness to two men being co-parents, whether or not they're also partners. I'm prompting Sengoku and Harumi tipping over into a romantic and/or sexual relationship, but would also be delighted with a story that's vague on who exactly they are to each other.

Fandom: Octopath Traveler
Details: Since the playable characters' sexualities are largely unspecified, I see a lot of potential for queerness. I'm prompting an F/F ship, H'aanit/Primrose.

Fandom: Antique Bakery
Details: Societal attitudes towards queerness are an undercurrent throughout the series - I'm especially a fan of the ways that both Tachibana and Ono grapple with internalized homophobia, and anything exploring those themes.

Details: I'm requesting something about the relationship between Natalia Koutolika (The Prodigy, a girl raised to be the pinnacle of physical and mental prowess that has left her heart frozen) and Jasper Irinka (the Child of the Sun, who fell to Earth when her mother the sun was killed and is still trying to be bright and cheerful even as she tries to navigate the mysterious human world and its strange concepts like 'money' and 'sneezing'). The game canonically suggests they're drawn together despite how different they seem, and I think there's a lot of room for a young queer romance of these two strange girls trying to understand themselves and each other and the weirdness of the world around them.

Fandom: Lavender Jack
Details: Theresa Ferrier and Marguerite Des Melbone are an elderly lesbian married couple -- Theresa being the world's greatest detective (and a tall butch black lady at that), and Marguerite a world-renowned painter (who's just now recovering from a brain tumor that caused her severe cognitive problems). I'm asking for an exploration of their relationship, either in their younger days when they were just meeting up, or post-canon when they're together in their old age, enjoying each other's company and mentoring the next generation (both of detectives and of queer relationships).

What is it?: Interactive fiction about an AU Victorian London with supernatural creatures, especially fairies, promo post for it here
Any specific fandom details, preferences, comments, etc: One of the requested characters, Alistair Farrington, is a cis man, but the other two, Valentine Dupont and Rowan Forester, can be of any gender, so this definitely can be queer. (I honestly feel like Farrington and Valentine's relationship is really intended to be.) Farrington and Valentine have a canon romantic relationship, but we don't see much of it. Valentine also has a somewhat mysterious connection to Rowan.

Fandom: Stray Gods: The Roleplaying Musical
What is it?: Visual novel musical murder mystery in which a young musician becomes a literal muse, discovers Greek gods are real and still exist and must investigate the murder of her predecessor, promo post for it here
Any specific fandom details, preferences, comments, etc: In the DLC, Orpheus does speed dating with both men and women and doesn't seem to find this at all odd. Also, he can meet Eros, who is currently a man, at a bar after and suggest a relationship. Eros turns him down at the time, but still seems somewhat interested and might go for it at another time.

Grace, the protagonist of the game, can have a romance with her female best friend, Freddie or Persephone, either of which could be great in a post-game fic, and I would alternatively be interested in an AU fic where the Muse Calliope lives longer and has a romantic relationship with Grace (and possibly Freddie).

Fandom: Their Majesties' Pleasure
What is it?: Interactive fiction where you play a royal guard who gets caught up with the prince and princess and helps them deal with crises in the kingdom, including a possible war with the Fae, promo post for it here
Any specific fandom details, preferences, comments, etc: The Prince of the kingdom, Julian, has an existing romantic relationship with Javier, who leads basically a group of assassins who basically run the city. I have requested a fic about this relationship or possibly this relationship including the Fae Prince Galen. (Or also either of those also including the PC, who can be any gender)

The first of these is a film about T.E. Lawrence, who was gay in real life; I prefer interpretations of the film that see his bond with Emir Faisal as romantic/sexual, and got a great story on that last year! Most of the characters in Utena are various types of queer. The character Omar Little from The Wire is canonically gay (and I am requesting shippy stuff between him and the character Brother Mouzone), and Rosemary and Sissix in Wayfarers are in a canonical F/F relationship. I tend to interpret several of the characters from Legend of Galactic Heroes as queer, and particularly Yang as asexual and Siegfried Kircheis/Reinhard von Lohengramm as having had a sexual and romantic relationship. I don't specifically require it, but I am open to queer interpretations of the characters from Princess Tutu, including same-gender relationships and trans headcanons.

Any specific fandom details, preferences, comments, etc: This fandom has canonically queer characters, but I didn't feel like they had a different POV from the straight characters, and overall it ended up having very heteronormative values. I would like to see the bisexuals speak up about the idea that if you're in a relationship, you can't have friends of the gender you could potentially be attracted to, for obvious reasons... I would also very much like to see White, who is not acknowledged as queer but doesn't behave much like a straight guy imo, have a bi awakening.

Any specific fandom details, preferences, comments, etc: Guy and Saint are love rivals, but the way they bicker feels a lot like flirting, while Liu, the one they're fighting over, seems quite obsessed with beautiful women, and if I didn't know better, I would have thought it was a GL from the first episode. It would be interesting to take that out of subtext and into text.

Specific Details: All four of my fandoms offer up opportunities for queer relationships, whether gay or bi. I am also happy with pairings/threesomes including any/all of my requested characters (yep, even when it gets complicated). I just really love opportunities to tell and read queer stories where queerness is simply part of the story, and normal or celebrated, rather than an axis through which characters are ground down by society.

• Interview with the Vampire (TV 2022) RPF - The cast and crew are already fully queer-positive, and have been very vocal in interviews and on social media about their commitment to an authentic queer adaptation of the story they're telling. I'd love to see an RPF scenario within that framework, where Sam and Jacob's wonderful friendship slides into the romantic, whatever that means, and however it manifests.

• Killjoys (TV) - The world of Killjoys is one in which queerness is normalized, so any angst/messiness/complication comes not from sexual preferences, but rather your relationship with and to your partner. Any relationship between Johnny and Dutch (who view each other as siblings), or Johnny and Khlyen (who generally view each other as enemies), or Dutch and Khlyen (child and parent, but also sometimes enemies, sometimes allies), or Dutch and Johnny and Khlyen (all of the above) is going to be complex and confusing. I just really love shifting that heavy, serious weight to more individual romantic conflicts and away from queerness; it's a breath of fresh air, and I think we can use that right now.

• Constantine (TV) - John is canonically bisexual, and also up for anything. Manny is an angel. Even living in a modern world, there's no level of oppression or homophobia that's going to stop either one of them from pursuing the people they're attracted to, and frankly, they've both got bigger fish to fry. I would love a story in which queerness is not a particular issue for either of them, or any homophobia (from an external source) is handily dealt with, either discounted and brushed off, or appropriately (magically) violently.

• L.A. By Night (Web Series) - Well, they're vampires, so they're often associated with queerness in literature/media, and at least amongst vampire society, it's not usually an issue. The game itself is full of queer-friendly/-positive players, and that has carried over to the narrative itself. Much like Constantine, while the human world may be full of oppression and homophobia, the characters in L.A. By Night have been alive long enough that court and clan politics are always going to overshadow anything and everything else.

What Is It?: An 8 episode supernatural teen drama on Netflix about star-crossed lesbians from a vampire family and a vampire hunting family
What Am I requesting?: In addition to Calliope, the vampire hunter who is canonically a lesbian, I would love to see queer headcanons for her brothers.

Fandom: Legally Blonde - Hach/O'Keefe/Benjamin
Character: Elle Woods, Emmett Forrest, Enid Hoops, Paulette Bonafonte, and Vivian Kensington
What is it?: The 2003 adaptation the Reese Witherspoon movie. There is a proshot that is available on Youtube.
What am I requesting: In addition to Enid, who is canonically a lesbian, a lot of writers portray Emmett as a trans man. I'd love to see that, and any other queer or trans interpretation of these characters.

Fandom: Thoroughly Modern Millie - Tesori/Scanlan/Morris (spoilers below!)
Characters: Millie Dilmount, Jimmy Smith, Miss Dorothy Brown, Muzzy Van Hossmere
What Is It?: A 2002 musical adaptation of a Julie Andrews film from the 60s
What Am I requesting?: Like most good m/f couples, the bi4bi energy of Jimmy/Millie is so powerful, and I'd love something that explores that. I'd also love to see queer versions of Muzzy and Miss Dorothy who are both high femme in their own ways.

Fandom: Roaring Twenties Magic - Allie Therin
Characters: Jade Robbins, Jianwei Zhang, Sebastian de Leon, Wesley Collins | Lord Fine
What Is It?: M/M fantasy 1920s historical romance trilogy that is a spinoff of the Magic in Manhattan series.
What Am I requesting?: Sebastian and Wesley are the main canon M/M couple, and I'd love to get fic about them. Jade is a former spy who usually wears men's suits, and I'd love to see a fic that addresses her relationship to gender, especially in the context of her relationship with her canon love interest Zhang.

Well, most of my fandoms this year are canonically pretty queer, and I don't mind if a writer wants to tag stories for any of them with this mini-challenge. That said, I want to highlight one fandom that I would particularly like to see more deliberately queered!

Fandom: The Witch Family - Eleanor Estes
Any specific fandom details, preferences, comments, etc: The Witch Family is a fabulously metafictional middle-grade novel from the 1960s about a little girl and her best friend who tell stories that sometimes intrude on their reality. I would love to read fic that queers this premise as the girls get older; whether Amy uses her "fiction" to explore questions about her identity, or the "fictional" girls get together and surprise/spark something in Amy and/or Clarissa, or a "fictional" and a "non-fictional" girl come to a realization together (about one another or their counterparts, or however you want to play with it) ... etc etc.

(I have always found the way that Hannah encounters Lurie in her lagoon in the glass hill to be romantically suggestive!)
