Yuletide Fandom Promo 2024!

Welcome to the Fandom Promo post, everyone!

Here's where you get those eyes on your fandoms for sign-ups!

Share what makes your Yuletide fandoms the shiniest and why you love them. A big part of Yuletide is how small our fandoms can be, and this is a good way to make sure other people know what gems there are out there!

Cheju has started a spreadsheet for promo! Here's the link!

(Bonus options: What are you thinking of requesting for this? If you're thinking of nominating worldbuilding, what sort of worldbuilding topics might people explore?)

Useful tip (Not required, but helps people if they want to engage with your fandom!):

- It's best to make each fandom its own entry with its own title in the subject line! That makes it easier for people to find/see what you're promoting! Don't worry about 'spam', that is the entire point of this entry and you're using it exactly as intended.

Sleep No More

Title: Sleep No More

Media: immersive theater

Approx length: 3 hours

Where to find it: This is a live theatrical performance at the McKittrick Hotel in New York City. There have been a few other locations (there is currently a production in Shanghai), but the NYC one is the one I know.

What is it, in summary?: Sleep No More is an immersive theatrical performance in which you wander the space of the show observing the characters as they go about their business. The story is a combination of Macbeth and the Paisley witch trials, set in 1939, with elements of Hitchcock film aesthetics. The show is predominantly mute and performed through dance. There are five floors in the set comprising a variety of scenes - a ballroom, a hotel lobby, a street of shops, and more - and the characters each move on their set paths, variously interacting with each other, and occasionally with guests. All guests wear masks to cover their faces while in the show and are instructed not to speak.

What do you love about it?: It's like nothing I've ever seen before. I've been maybe ten times and I have another trip coming up soon. Going to SNM is like entering a dream, being transported to another time and place. You feel like a ghost wandering these people's lives and observing them. Every show is different, depending on who you decide to follow or where you decide to go, as well as which actors are playing which characters. It's passionate, sensual, discomforting, and unsettling, and I love all of it.

What sort of things are you likely to request for it?: I'm most likely to request worldbuilding or character studies - I'm particularly interested in Hecate and her relationships with her various followers: the Porter, the Speakeasy Bartender, and the three witches. I'm also interested in the character of Fulton and how he resists the lure of the witches. I'd love it if the setting itself played a big role in the story, as if the world was itself a character. The high street and the hotel lobby are the most compelling settings to me, but I welcome any place in the McKittrick. Please feel free to message me if you are familiar with the show but still have questions!

Are there sections of canon (rather than the whole canon) that can be consumed by themselves to fulfil your requests, or that showcase particular characters and relationships?: Unfortunately, the nature of the show means that you have to actually attend it live to see it.

Content warnings (ie, rape, incest, racism, gore/violence): Lots of sex, some violence and murder
