Swapping '22 (Yuletide Version) || SIGN-UPS ARE OPEN.
It's miserable and magical, oh yeah... Tonight's the night [to not forget to open Yuleswaps]!
Sorry, swappers. We did not forget about you! We had a plan! The large appliances in my home are just not cooperating! But here we are -- it's 2022, and postal services work again! (As well as they ever did, anyway.) Hopefully this year we will spend less time on various countries' postal websites!
1) Please give us a heads up if you know your country can't ship somewhere that isn't noted on this list, which has been so useful to us the past few years! (Thank you to whoever shared it with us two years ago.) For instance, last year if you lived in the US, you could technically mail to Australia, but the USPS had suspended service, so any swappers would've had to use a more expensive courier service. (We know many of you do this anyway, but if we can avoid forcing that on you when matching, we try.)
2) Please commit to checking in on time! This means on Swaps Central by the end of the last sending day (this year it's Saturday, November 19th).
We will email-remind you of this deadline a few days before and again shortly after it's passed! We do track late check-ins and will ban participants who are persistently difficult to communicate with.
(Related: if "email back tomorrow" is super hard for you right now, BOY DO WE FEEL YOU -- but maybe swaps is not for you this year. That's okay! We still like you! We'll see you next year!)

+ Sign-up forms are open now and will close on Wednesday, October 26, 2022 at 8:00 AM PDT.
PLEASE NOTE: THIS IS A PRETTY SHORT SIGN-UP PERIOD, and I apologize to those of you it's inconvenient for due to time zones. :( Please do your best (it's okay if you don't write a lot of details)! I decided this less-than-ideal sign-up timeframe was better than pushing the sending deadline back or canceling swaps entirely. We hope to be back to normal next year.

+ Match-ups will go out in early November over a period of three-ish days (in order to accommodate mail merge sending limits). The order is usually candy, drinks, books.
You will then have approximately 2 weeks to MAIL YOUR PACKAGE/S. Before signing up, please do a reality/calendar check to make sure you have the time, money, and bandwidth!
Multi-swap swappers: please DO NOT WAIT to check in, and especially don't wait to contact your recipient/s! Your concerned recip will express their concern, appropriately, by emailing and making you our problem. Don't be our problem! Be a promptly-emailing hero!
+ This year's SENDING DEADLINE: Saturday, November 19, 2022 (end of day, or whatever time your local postal service/courier stops accepting packages... please check in advance!)
REMINDERS:
+ Swaps Central: our all-in-one check-in form! Link to be provided after match-ups/constantly forever until you're sick of it.
+ Email: immediately following match-ups, be prepared to contact recipients/respond to senders within 48 hours! This is to make sure everyone gets enough time (a week and a half, even if you're both slowish) to reasonably make the sending deadline.
(We also suggest, if you're new, emailing us ahead of time at yuleswaps at gmail dot com, so your email doesn't filter us out.)
+ Defaulting/withdrawing: just tell us! If you sign up and then realize you're not up to it FOR ANY REASON, as long as you promptly communicate this, we will work out a solution with no ill will. The earlier the better.
If you vanish without a trace, or default repeatedly, we will a) be worried?? b) have to default and/or ban you for the sake of others' sanity.
+ DW/LJ: we always update on DW as soon as match-ups go out, in case any emails have gone astray. Please see the FAQ for instructions on how to track the various yuleswaps tags!
+ Sign-ups: Google Forms should send a copy of your sign-up responses. You can edit them (via the link provided in that email) until sign-ups close! Please read instructions carefully.

*Pronouns vary, as kwami gender is complicated. I tend to say he, thanks to the AU I'm writing where Duusu has used multiple different pronouns over the centuries (magical being) and openly states that, with his present wielder, he prefers to use the male set.

I'm not signing up for the bookswap this year because, uh, I have an unmanageable to-read queue and cannot justify getting any more books. Heresy, I know. But I love sending books to people and would like to be a freelance pinch-hitter for the bookswap!
