Yuletide Reveals - Your Reveals Posts

You survived a Yuletide! How was it?

Talk about what you wrote here, or link to posts on your personal journals, if you have them. When did you encounter bears, and how did you fight them off? What's the factoid that didn't make it into a work's final form?

Here's my reveals post! I wrote four gifts for Yuletide, three for Remains of the Day and one for Malory Towers. This was my first year doing Yuletide (or indeed any fanfic exchange) and I'm already looking forward to next year-- it's so lovely to be able to write things for other people in under-represented and under-loved fandoms, and to connect through writing!

Literally wrote the ending to my story I hadn't planned yet in the AO3 browser tab editor with the countdown tab also open and submitted with 2 minutes to go until the deadline for my first Yuletide ever.

Honestly this is also how I handle everything in life so, unsurprising.

It was so fun!!

My reveal post is here. I wrote one story for Dracula - Bram Stoker (Novel 1897).

Edit: And you can find the round-up commentary for this story over here.

Value of a yuletide-staff-sourced stranger!beta can not be overstated. Objective voice of reason kindly pointing out stuff that could be done better when you're anxious if the stuff you're planning to post is even readable for real people is invaluable.

To the person who found my beta, to my beta and to all betas frankly - thank you for your service!

So much this. Being able to yule-source Betas is wonderful. I used the spreadsheet, which worked great as well.

Once again Yuletide has played a significant part in my preparations for Christmas. I do other exchanges in the year and enjoy them all but this one has a special place in my heart.

I wrote six stories this year in five fandoms, which is more than most years; but averaged together with what I wrote last (my assignment and nothing else) means between the two years I wrote as much as I usually would.

My joy this Yuletide was to see a nice group of stories for The Charioteer and Left Hand of Darkness and my disappointment was that no one else requested any story for any of the historical Renault novels.

I'm not very much a DW native, and a bit shy about connecting my DW and my AO3 identities, so my reveals post is currently access locked (and I cannot add people I don't know), BUT.

I had an amazing time. My assignment was so unlikely and so was my gift! I wrote 5 stories. 3 in Yuletide and 2 in Madness. I thought at least one would have to be a NYR but then it started to flow. 4 of them were Yuletide length, but I always like to do some drabbles and I pulled that off as well.

I wrote in: Hawkeye, Valdemar (2x treats), Gold Tree and Silver Tree (fairy tale, in Madness) and Jolene - Lil Nas X

The stuff I betaed was also awesome and my betas were amazing.

I had so much fun.

Thank you again, mods. Yuletide is now a staple in my life. :)

I had a great time doing Yuletide as usual! I wrote in Sleepless Domain, Sid Meier's Alpha Centauri, Cozy Grove, Sometimes the Stars - The Audreys, My Time at Portia, and Fatal Frame: Maiden of Black Water.

My random ramblings about the fics I wrote are here.

I missed doing a reveals post last year, which I always regretted, so this year, I managed it once more! Reveals post here!

I thought I saw the shadow of a bear with around two weeks to deadline, but thanks to my beta those shadows fled. ;)
It probably helped that I very early on decided that unless someone posted about a treat that was 110% right up my alley I wouldn't even think about attempting that. (I tend to hyperfocus on things, so beginning to write a treat on top of something that would take up a lot of my energy this autumn wouldn't be a good idea.)
I hope I can return for next year, hopefully with more energy. :)

Thank you for running this exchange. :)

This was my first Yuletide, and I wrote one story for the Wayward Children series fandom.

Working with a "worldbuilding" request for this fandom was both exactly what I wanted and almost a disaster, because while the fandom is *incredibly* amenable to it, I'm a slow writer. Every idea I came up with wanted to be at least 10k, if I did everything I wanted to do with them. The one I settled on easily could have been a novella, and indeed, I have enough notes that I have some hope of revisiting it in some form in the future.

I did manage condense the idea into a manageable format (just) in time, and I've been pleased with the feedback I've gotten on it so far. Definitely looking forward to next year. :)

I wrote 9 stories, 6 for the main collection and 3 for madness. My assignment was Ancient Egyptian Religion and I ended up doing so much research, I wrote my assignment +3 more in the same setting. Also, Mesopotamian RPF, Eurovision Song Contest: The Story of Fire Saga (2020), Bisclavret - Marie de France, Astronomy, and Murderbot Diaries. I want to thank everyone who make this exchange work. The ability to find up to the end Betas alone is amazing, and with all the moding, hippoing, pinch hitting, etc., it's awesome every year that this comes together like it does.

1 pinch-hit, 2 full-size treats, 30 drabbles

I've been participating in Yuletide on and off since 2005. (I never left fandom, but between 2010 and this summer my participation was more as a reader than writer.) This was the first year I used the app and logged onto Discord, and they both significantly enhanced the experience for me.

I'd like to join the hippo dancing in the future, when I feel able. Wishing the whole corps + mods + all the other volunteers a glorious 2022!

I wrote three stories, one a bit of back story for Persuasion (https://archiveofourown.org/works/35614237), and a couple of cracky treats for some of the short works of Matthew Bourne, especially the "Pissoir Duet" (https://archiveofourown.org/works/35758810), and Bath Tangle (https://archiveofourown.org/works/35934523). Writing the Persuasion story was the hardest this year - there wasn't much to go on in the recipient's letter, so I wrote for a story idea I'd had in the past - but actually having specific requests to write to is a good source of creativity for me, so I struggled a bit. I (cough) didn't really leave out any historically accurate factoids of that one, apart from people heroically rowing between Caribbean islands in the middle of night to pass on ship sightings. I mean, if Miss Austen's going to give a perfectly precise detail like which battle someone is the hero of, it makes sense to look it up, right? ;-)

For the Matthew Bourne story - it still hasn't been wrangled. Is there a preferred polite way to help the tag wranglers out? They're all short dance theatre works by the same choreographer.

Also, I got some super lovely stories from people - a canon divergent scene from Georgette Heyer's Masqueraders (they fight!), and a feelings scene about Culloden from the same book, and someone watched my absolute favourite version of Twelfth Night and wrote a _perfect_ epilogue.

Many thanks to all the mods and supporting fans to make this happen like clockwork, every year! Happy New Year!

A little late, but here is my reveals post. I was thrilled to be able to write for the Danny Dunn book series, which I really loved as a child.
