And it's back!

So many fandoms, so little time.

If you are entranced by tiny canons, luscious fandom promos, or letters with prompts that you absolutely adore, and you've got to do something to appease the itty bitty plot bunnies that are camping near your ankles, the Yuletide Madness Drabble Invitational is back to meet all your "I don't have time or ideas enough to do 1000 words, but that idea is still keen" needs.

How does it work?

Write drabbles or drabble series for Yuletide Madness. Proper ones, where the text of each drabble is exactly 100 words, please. Ficlets are fun, but they aren't drabbles. (You can, of course, post a 1000 word tale told in drabbles, where each chapter/bit is exactly 100 words to the main Yuletide collection, if you like.)

Give them to people.

Add "yumadrin" or "Yuletide Madness Drabble Invitational" to the tags.

As of the start of Yuletide 2021 we have created 644 drabbles, the oldest ones from 2013 when the Invitational began. Not quite a hundred drabbles a year, but not bad! These little mini-gifts are a lot of fun to give, and to get, and they're fun to create as well. Check out the tag to see what we mean!

20 is fantastic. I do a lot of them because it's either drabbles or WIPS and most people like drabbles better. :D

I did a fun experiment last year with 31 days of drabbles in December that I plan to repeat this year.

So this is no signup required, just -- look for requests that interest you, write drabbles, tag as instructed, profit? I never sign up for Yuletide because I can't commit to the minimum words/fandoms, but if writing even one drabble is ok...

Yes! I actually started this because I missed signups one year and I still wanted to play while I was waiting to snag a pinch hit. There are so many intriguing prompts out there, and so many tiny fandoms where people are hoping for someone else to say "I like this too!"

Do these just go up as we write them, or are they on the same schedule as regular Yuletide?

You put them in the Madness sub collection, which opens after the main collection. Like regular Yuletide gifts, they are anonymous at first and then revealed, so don’t hint about your choices ahead of time!

Yay!!! Thank you for setting this wonderful part of Yuletide up every year :) I also now finally understand your username having experienced LOTR for the very first time during COVID... I, too, am a rabid Sam fan. He is the greatest, the most wonderful. I hope you're well!

Sam is indeed the best. I was once accused of trying to rewrite the whole story from his side or on drabbles, and I can’t say it wasn’t true.

I have a question as a yuletide newbie: Do these still also go into the Madness collection?

Yes. They are too short for the main collection. And they make nice treats.
