I'm not sure what you're asking here. It's in the tagset and in previous years people asked I add it to the compiled short story posts so I have.

If the question is "how is it a story," consider reframing the listings as "Written works that are short enough to reasonably read in one sitting and not behind a paywall"; since the point is for people to be able to familiarize themselves with a new canon to possibly request or write it, the length is more important than fiction/non-fiction.

No, for simplicity's sake (with the exception of the patreon one) I'm only linking to free online versions and just listing other short stories that would require purchasing/acquiring in some other way since that would be tons more work and also those sorts of links probably vary by country.

Hazard by Georgette Heyer can be found in two short story collections Pistols For Two or Snowdrift (contains all the same stories as the first plus a few extra). Snowdrift isn't so easy to find online because it's quite a new edition, but there is a copy of Pistols For Two on the open library that can be borrowed (account required but free).

Do we count the Nibelungenlied as a poem, even if it's a very long poem? (Then again, Beowulf is long-ish as well, so... It should count. I guess.)

Other long poems missing include Jerusalem Delivered - Tasso, Iliad, Odyssey, Sir Gawain and the Green Knight, and Bisclavret - Marie de France.

Oh, and short poem missing: Cupid and Campaspe - John Lyly.

When I was compiling the list I gave a quick look at the Iliad and Sir Gawain and both were quite long and the copy I found of Jerusalem Delivered shows it's over 400 pages. The original intent of this list was not to include anything that might be a poem or epic in anyway but rather things that could be read in one single sitting and could, by some stretch at least, be considered "short". (I realize some things don't quite fit this definition but they slipped in and I don't want to delete them. I think people who would be interested in things like the Iliad or the Odyssey will be able to find them without a list like this though.)

I'll include Bisclavret - Marie de France and Cupid and Campaspe - John Lyly however as those to appear to be actually short.

I didn't request this story, but I think the version of Prince/King Lindworm listed is perhaps not the best choice for an initial introduction to the tale? The request doesn't appear to be for this version specifically, so I'm not sure it's the best place to start with. The link is for Andrew Lang's version that he put in his Pink Fairy Book and is a Swedish variant. It's rather different in many ways than more common variations so I think perhaps another version of it should be put first?

The most common English version comes from East of the Sun and West of the Moon (and thus the version most English fic/media is based off of). It is a collection of Norwegian tales published in the early 20th century and its version can be found here. https://www.worldoftales.com/European_folktales/Norwegian_folktale_3.html#gsc.tab=0

There are other versions of course, but this version seems to be the one most people start with when it comes to fanwork.
