(Anonymous) 2020-10-02 06:22 pm (UTC)(link)WHAT MAKES IT GREAT: Way before its time supersonic helicopter, including one or two 'hints' that the helicopter could have a rudimentary AI. Dark, brooding hero Stringfellow Hawke, (Jan Michael-Vincent) who steals said helicopter in order to force 'The Firm' (a loosely disguised CIA) to look for his missing brother in Viet Nam. Hawke's father-figure/mentor Dom Santini (Ernest Borgnine). Second season addition to the cast Caitlin O'Shannessy (Jean Bruce Scott) former TX highway patrol pilot who tracks Hawke down after he and the helicopter rescue rescue her from a corrupt sheriff. The deputy directer of the Firm and essentially Hawke's handler Michael Coldsmith Briggs III (Alex Cord) who wears an eyepatch and carries a cane thanks to being on the wrong end of Airwolf before Hawke retrieved it. He also wears all white and has predominately female agents working in his division (reason for which is never explained in the show, fanon tends to suggest he knows women are often underestimated.) (And did I mention that he is HOT?)
Ignore the 4th season. Most fans would prefer that it didn't exist. There's a different cast, they had no access to the actual helicopter for filming, and it was only made to create enough episodes for syndication.
WHERE CAN I FIND IT?: Currently, all but a couple episodes (problems with rights to the music) are airing for free on Peacock in the US. Also available on DVD.
