Ten recs in seven fandoms, plus links to two bonus stories.
Fandoms are "The Author of the Acacia Seeds" - Ursula K. Le Guin, Benjamin January - Barbara Hambly, The Clan of the Cave Bear - Jean Auel, The Dark Tower - Stephen King, The Long Walk - Stephen King, Sandman - Neil Gaiman, and Wiseguy (80s TV). I divided them in terms of whether or not you need to know canon to enjoy the story.
