So while I am happy you got wonderful gifts, and I look forward to seeing your recs (especially the Knitting fic and the Epic of Gilgamesh), uh, what is Chronicles of Morgaine as that seems right the hell up my Arthurian-obsessed, female-character-obsessed alley?

I hate to break it to you but while Chronicles of Morgaine is named after the heroine, Morgaine, and while Morgaine is an excellent female character, it has absolutely zero to do with Arthurian anything. It's a C. J. Cherryh quadrology about Morgaine, who is half human and half...some alien humanoid race that starts with q, and she is under a quest/geas to close all the gates that the q-race created at the end of time, which enabled travel across space and time and which resulted in the disastrous unraveling of space-time. It's really good, but I think most of it is told from the POV of her traveling companion Vanye, and even more frustratingly, the story is incomplete. There may have been a graphic novel in the setting but I never found it so I don't know if that completes the story. Anyway, it reads like sword and sorcery but it's technically science fiction, if you care about such distinctions.

Sorry this is so vague...I last read these books in high school over 25 years ago. :] I think there was information about the books/setting on Cherryh's website, but I cannot figure out how to navigate it.

WAIT, WAIT, WAIT. I think I read one or two of those when I was younger myself! I remember this series now that you mention it, but I did not remember the lead character's name. I do remember looking for the final books of the series and never finding them and figuring it was my fault because I didn't look hard enough. GODDAMNIT. I cannot believe I forgot that! Morgan La Fay is one of my favorite Arthurian characters; you'd think I'd remember a sci-fi-ish series named after her, even if it wasn't her.
