Kid Icarus: Uprising

Official art depicting Pit next to the Kid Icarus: Uprising logo.
Title: Kid Icarus: Uprising

Media: Video Game

Approx length: Something like 6-10 hours.

Where to find it: If you have a 3DS you can get it on the Nintendo Eshop, or you can watch any number of Let's Plays or No-Commentary Playthroughs on Youtube!

What is it, in summary?: A silly little game very loosely inspired by Greek Mythology. The evil Goddess of Darkness, Medusa, has risen and is looking for revenge on the Goddess of Light, Palutena, and her loyal angel Pit. This seemingly simple tale gets increasingly complicated as more gods get involved in the conflict, turning a straightforward fight between good and evil into a messy free-for-all with the fate of humanity at the center.

What do you love about it?: The depth of the writing in this little game is astounding, with the tone near-effortlessly balancing between light-hearted fourth-wall breaking and genuinely gut-wrenching moments. Nearly every character is memorable, even the ones that only star in a single chapter apiece, and even more the core cast. Pit and Palutena have a dynamic that easily carries their many, many conversations throughout the game, and Pit's 'evil' clone Dark Pit is an excellent foil that manages to deepen Pit's character by the simple act of existing and being himself.

What sort of things are you likely to request for it?: My darling boy Dark Pit, the light of my life. His rebellious spirit is everything to me, and I'm especially interested in further explorations of how he feels about being a clone— what he thinks of Pit, Palutena, how much of his identity is Pit.
