AO3: Zabbers
Fandoms:
The Rake's Progress The Devil ("disguised" as Nick Shadow) visits Tom Rakewell in his idyllic (if slothful) country life to tell him that he's come into an inheritance. He takes him away from his pure-hearted girlfriend to London to learn to spend it and, of course, leads him down the path of destruction. She follows to try to save him, but Tom is pretty much convinced from the first that he's irredeemable. This is partly due to his personal philosophy (fate is fate) and partly due to Shadow's total influence over him. There's a scene in which Shadow tries to talk Tom into killing himself, insisting that it's the price he didn't name "a year and a day" ago when Tom agreed to his services. The dynamic between Nick Shadow and Tom Rakewell is delicious--Shadow is so much in control and Tom is pretty much completely oblivious and pretty darned innocent.

This clip of that scene is from the version I first saw, which imprinted me on the ship. It's got manhandling so much manhandling, real sweat, a little fake blood, strongly implied non-con, suicide talk, loss of sanity,, it technically takes place in a graveyard though you wouldn't know it from the set, and the entire chorus is dressed as naked monkeys wearing white sneakers (and they don't even get to keep those).

Happy Endings Preferred?: No
Wanted tropes: dub/non-con, corruption, mindgames, self-harm, power dynamics, characters stuck in roles
Unwanted tropes: incest, funerary rites and corpses, terminal illness (canonical allegorical "death in bedlam" okay)
