Yulebuilding
(Sorry that this is late!)
Greetings, everyone! Yuletide contains multitudes, and a chunk of those multitudes would really like to request worldbuilding. Thus, here is a sub-challenge post for those of us who love worldbuilding, either on the giving or receiving end.

It's not necessary to interact with Yulebuilding in any way to give or request worldbuilding for Yuletide, but this post is here to make life easier. Enjoy!

Fandoms are Alphas, Exit/Corners, His Dark Materials, Jake 2.0, and Sunshine (2007). I'd not say no to worldbuilding for any of them!

Fandoms and character(s):
Creature Court Trilogy - Evie, Isangell, Livilla, Velody
Hythrun Chronicles - Shananara, Charisee, Kalan, Julika
Obernewtyn Chronicles - Elspeth, Dameon
Likes: I have more likes and prompts (and fandoms) in my letter, but I especially love any sort of fantasy/sci-fi book worldbuilding that explores things like everyday life when there isn't a big dramatic plot afoot, how magic or special powers work, worlds and places beyond the main setting(s), and how different groups/communities in that world relate to each other, and anything about the small comforts and everyday moments in hidden/secret found-family communities

Fandoms (and characters):
- Friends at the Table (Signet, Tender Sky, Fourteen Fifteen)
- On a Sunbeam (any/none; Mia, Jules, Grace, or Elliot; worldbuilding also good)
- Killjoys (Rennika)
- The Traitor Baru Cormorant (Tau-indi)
- The Craft Sequence (Hala'Zeddig)
- Empress of Forever (Zanj)
Most of those have worldbuilding prompts already in them. My general likes for worldbuilding are domesticity and what people do in their downtime, fantastical places, different social norms, looks into how the world shaped characters into who they are, and how history remembers people.

Fantasy worldbuilding fandoms: Chronicles of Elantra (Barian, Lirienne), Log Horizon (Minori)
I’m really interested in the influence of culture on relationships (adoption or marriage practices, romantic vs. blood family loyalties, politics meddling in family/friends/romance, etc.), and also the everyday implications of living with/in sentient inhuman entities: what does it look like when your home has preferences? Or the neighboring castle? I also have a bunch more specific prompts in the letter.
(I also have James Asher Vampire series prompts (James, Lydia, Simon), which are much more historical. Honestly, if you’re interested in historical worldbuilding or especially the intersection of historical+fantasy worldbuilding, please read those books! They’re amazing. And then write me fic.)

I am always interested in world-building! I like to know how things work, see the gritty underside of the glitter, and the legends and folk-tales that show us the heart of a culture. Here are a few fandom-specific questions I've been pondering.
The Expanse (TV): So much world-building potential here! Belter culture, with its combination of absolute freedom with its dedication to the community above the individual, fascinates me. The airlock as the way to settle any serious disagreement. Belter Creole, with its mix of spoken languages and gestures. Did all these people's ancestors choose to emigrate? Were they deported? Did companies ferry workers out to the Belt and leave them there to make a cheap labor pool, once they they had adapted to low-G and couldn't return to Earth even if they wanted to? Are there families or clans that operate entirely out in the black, flitting from asteroid to asteroid? How did the OPA's manage such a fast transition from loosely-related factions to an organized military? Alternatively, I'd like to know more about the under-class we see glimpses of on Earth, the 'undocumented' that Anna mentions serving with her clinic.
A Taste of Honey - Kai Ashante Wilson: World-building of any and all kinds, including OC's, epistolary fic, sacred art and scripture, an introduction to the standard text on the ethics of psionics, or an Ashean's scientific overview of the breeding experiment that is the Sacred Cousins of Olorum. (One possible explanation for why homosexuality is so violently rejected in their engineered society.)
Binti series - Nnedi Okrafor: I have so many questions! I'm very interested in more of the legends, religion and culture of the Himba people. The Meduse love combat and war - how did they make it out into the galaxy without, first, self-destructing, and later, killing themselves by fighting with every race they found out there? To what extent are they a hive mind, as opposed to individuals? The author gives us tiny glimpses of all these radically different species. Show me more! I'd love a piece exploring how Oozma University serves them all, with their incredibly varied physiological, emotional, psychological and spiritual needs.
Shuri (Comics): I would enjoy any and all world-building in this universe. I'd enjoy something from Shuri's ancestors POV or exploring Djalia, the plane of Wakandan memory, where the ancestors and the legends of the Wakandan people walk. The idea that Shuri takes her powers from those legends interests me, and I'd like to know more about that. Anything about the Dora Milajae! General Okoye says, "The Dora Milajae read and V.R. often. Education is a lifelong practice." I'd like to learn about her education and training, or how (and why) she altered the training regimen of the Dora Milajae when she was promoted. This could go a bit meta, contrasting the original Black Panther comic's 'wives of the King' with the modern fighting force. An exploration of how the Wakandans blend technology, science and spirituality would also be great.

Fandom: Baseball Highlights 2045
Worldbuilding is welcome in any of my fandoms but especially suited to this one. It's a futuristic baseball-themed deckbuilding card/board game set in 2045, with six-inning games and robots+cyborgs playing alongside humans. Beyond that there's a ton of room to explore. If you enjoy baseball and speculative worldbuilding it could be fun! There are further prompts in my letter.

Requesting: Machineries of Empire, A Memory Called Empire, Guardian (TV), Uplift saga
Some prompts:
Machineries of Empire (Jedao)
How has the society changed while Jedao's been in the black cradle? What's moth society like? What are wild moths like? What sorts of calendars have heretics set up? What sorts of huge alterations happened when the Liozh got excised from the calendar?
A Memory Called Empire (Mahit Dzmare, Three Seagrass)
How does Lsel Station run? What are the aliens Lsel Station has spotted? What's up with the grid and the Sunless? How do the Teixcalaanli name their children in depth?
Guardian (Zhu Jiu)
Where does Dixing get its food and energy; what does it grow in the cave? Zhu Jiu mentions the heroes of Dixing Zhu Long and Jiu Yin; what heroics did they do, and is Zhu Long a relative of Zhu Jiu's? How do Dixing powers work? Are there any other Yashou but the four kinds we see on the show?
Uplift saga (Creideiki)
What's it like to think in Trinary all day? What's the uplift process like at the midpoints, either as a legitimate or illegitimate one? What sorts of hijinks with galactic bureaucracy would Earthclan get involved in? What's going on with the progenitors?

Likes: I am always down for expanding on existing social and cultural stuff, seeing how they work and what they're like out of the spotlight, so to speak. Also political stuff and magical worldbuilding are fun.

The Expanse: The Story Behind the Tattoos. Tattoos obviously play a significant role in Belter culture, but we don't hear much about the individual tattoos and what they mean to the characters. What does Naomi's tattoo mean? Or Drummer's tattoo? When did they come by them? Is it purely and aesthetic/individual choice, or is there a greater cultural meaning behind them? Basically, I love the world-building details around Belter culture and I'd love to read more about it.

Anything else: Worldbuilding is entirely welcome for any of my requests! But the most obviously suitable are probably Northwest Smith (lovely pulp SF setting - literally 50% of my prompts are asking for worldbuilding), Tang Dynasty RPF, where I'm asking for something set in world where the ghosts and demons of Li Ho's poems are real, and Strange Tales.
